Tringo is a game you can earn money at.
08-25-2005 03:55
Tringo is game where you can donote to the pot if you want to. You don't have to though except if the host sets it to where you have to, but that is rare.

Trivia!
08-25-2005 04:17
many trivia games require no investment except in time and pay in cash and prizes. also for newbs there are money trees of course, but that isn't really a game. otherwise it is pretty much a gamble.

From: Wolven Moonlight And I don't mean gambling I would like to keep my earned cash. Playing games to win cash.. isn't that gambling? Or do you mean FREE games that still pay out cash? That's called begging..

You are giving them something, you are spending time at their location to up their dwell and their placement in searches. Nothing sad about it. Yes, you can make money playing games like Tringo. And besides many of these games are fun to play. I'd play Tringo for fun any day.

doesn't this rip off the hosts?
08-25-2005 12:15
I don't know because I have never hosted tringo, but I have heard from some hosts that they sometimes end up actually paying for the time they have spent working as hosts of Tringo rather than making money for their hours of effort. Any tringo hosts want to comment? If the win comes from the pots, but someone wins without putting money into the pot, it seems that person is benefitting very directly from the generosity of other players and the host without giving others the same opportunity to benefit from them. am I mistaken? Isn't it rather like others buying rounds of beers and drinking your beers as they are bought then leaving before it is your turn to buy a round? *not to offend, merely curious how it works*. I hate this attitude that the winner has to donate. It's certainly nice when they do. I host BLOOD 21 and if anyone pulls that "Hey winner put something into the pot, you cheap bastard" crap while I'm hosting, they will hear about it from me. IT IS RUDE to expect someone to donate. There is no obligation to donate, nor should there be. If someone wants their money spread over many pots, they should spread their money over several pots. If someone wants to put 1000L into a pot for fun, that's fine, but they shouldn't be surprised or upset when the winner stands up and goes home afterwards.

My Tringo winnings are my main source of income. So my answer to the original poster would be yes.
edited to clarify 'main source' of IN world SL income, certainly not RL income. Now wouldn't THAT be nice.

I think it's down to culture more than anything. In some places on your birthday, you're expected to buy everyone a drink. Elsewhere, everyone else is expected to buy you a drink. The same with this situation; I would prefer to play with people that put a decent amount back in when they win, but appreciate that many see it differently. And I guess it causes resentment from players that do put a sizable amount in when others don't. One view is not more right than the other. The thing that is wrong is bullying the winner to put a sizable amount in, or the winner being made to feel low for not donating enough.

From: Keiki Lemieux shouldn't be surprised or upset when the winner stands up and goes home afterwards. See if someone did that say in a pub game in one of my locals, they would get lynched lol. Its viewed as being extremely rude. We have to appreciate that not only are cultures and views different from nation to nation, they're different in different areas of one nation. The views toward it are not the problem, they will vary from person to person. The problem is the treatment the winner sometimes gets for not donating, or not donating enough.

I've won money several times as a contestant on The Shelter's gameshow, Payment Podium. In fact, there's another game of it tonight if I'm not mistaken...

Yes, Wolven, my first three months as a basic member, I made most of my money from Bingo, Slingo, trivia, free slots, and whatever else I could find. In the games like Bingo, I always put back in some of my winnings if I won, and maybe rate the host. There are also money trees for new players. You can put "money tree" in find (be sure and have mature turned on). All these things add up. Plus, the games are fun! coco

Well you think there be game out there that was not such L hog but tringo is and its becomeing harder for us resort oweners to run only tringo. let show you the figers as how much it cost to run tringo 24/7 if do 100L per pot and you pay the host 200hr for the host you 16 hrs =3,200 day 100 l pot do 5 game hr comes to 500L hr x 16=8,000L add the two 11,200L day x28 days 313,600 month. even if i had 140 vendors paying 250L week would only be 140,000 month. and the most get out the linden is about 300 US wich about 90,000L then the resort oweners are flipen in the rest. it house cards it will crash just hasn't yet. use resort oweners be used i was buying close to 100,000L month while at same time i hear somone selling his 125,000. Wiping egg off face. So i said i am shutting this puppy down. So Royal Island will just be my home now

From: Wolven Moonlight Do playing any of the games earn you $ // And I don't mean gambling I would like to keep my earned cash. I'm not sure if by "$/cash" you mean US$ or L$. There's also a fine distinction between "playing games," "gaming," and "gambling." Plenty of games in-world are "free to play " (no contribution to the game pot required) and have L$ cash payouts which place money into the hands of both new and old players alike. Some games and game events offer non-cash prizes and these can certainly have high value to a winner (for example: if you own land but can't build and win a pre-built house this might have a high value to you). By "keep my earned cash" I think you mean "hang onto my winnings until I decide how I want to spend them." Once money leaves another player's pocket, passes through a game pot, and then enters your pocket it's your money. To do with as you see fit. However, when it comes to gambling it's a matter of your own self-control as to whether or not you manage to step away from the gaming table with your winnings or even wager at all. If you can't afford to lose your stake in the game, don't place the bet. Can you earn a RL living playing games within SL? Highly unlikely. Can you earn a SL living playing games within SL? Of course, and lots of players do, but it would be modest at best. A "professional" Tringo player can pick low-hanging fruit to his heart's content until a better "professional" Tringo player arrives and eats their lunch. And we get into the law of diminishing returns when you consider some Tringo players are so good no one else will play against them, which reduces the game pot size considerably. My advice is for you to try _all_ the games within SL _twice_ (the first time you play you'll be learning the rules of that particular game) as it's varied and vast and new games are being added all the time. Play the games you enjoy and try to overlook any ungracious event hosts or boorish players. If you win, hooray, and if you lose, well, at least you had fun socializing and playing an enjoyable game.
