Question about deeding land to group and reclaiming the land

I'm having trouble understanding the "deed land to group" option. I already have my land shared what a group so that people that rent my land can place their things onto the land. I think that I need to now deed the land to the group since some things are not working.

I understand how to deed the land so that I make a contribution to the group with my deed. My question is about reclaiming the land from the group...

I am the only officer of the group and may have to divide up the land or eventually sell it. How can I reclaim the land? Do I sell the land to myself? Does that affect my tier?

Suppose I have a plot of 100m and pay L$10 in tier for that. I divide it into two equal parts, each deeded to its own group. Now I want to join the two plots under one group - how do I do that? Will that affect my tier? I am the only officer in both groups.

Thanks...

Sell the land back to yourself for L$1, but make sure you remember to set it to sale for you only first. I think there is an option to change your tier contibution automatically at the same time, or there used to be... if not, and buying it back sends you into another tier level, I think you may be able to reduce the group's tier allocation first, then buy the land.

Worth repeating. If you do not do this you will be charged for both the tier you donate to the group AND your newly aquired land (the land you just bought from your group).

If you are doing this soon, I can donate some tier to your group while you do the transaction to ensure you are not double billed.

Yeah thinking about it, the automatic step was when you were deeding to a group, not the other way around.

Thank you very much - very kind of you.

I won't do this soon - just trying to understand how it works for now. This process is a lot easier on a private island than on mainland.

So if you need someone to donate tier to reclaim land then I suppose LL needs to work on that problem since I suspect it is very common. I bet this 'pattern' has been around for a while, and this makes it harder to manage rental properties. I'm wondering why LL has not done anything so far.

Thanks Schwanson!

Thank you for your reply, Fade! I'm gonna experiment with my First Land plot (still have it).

Technically you do not 'need' anyone else's tier donation to do this. The key for you is to remember to remove your tier donation to whatever group you are removing the land from BEFORE you purchase it for yourself. SL should allow your group a 24 hour grace period before reclaiming land that is group owned w/ insufficient tier donations.

As far as LL 'working on that problem', I suspect that they may consider it a non-problem. I am willing to bet that LL has made 10's of thousands of dollars from that 'feature'. ;)

If you ever need some IW help/practice w/ this, my tier donation offer will still stand as I usually carry quite a bit of free tier.

Good luck!

NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES should you sell land for $1.

Sell it for $0.

LL has put in safety mechanisms for $0 land sales. It forces you to designate a person to sell to and it will not allow the land to be sold unless you specify that person. This means that you can't accidentally sell it for sale and have a vulture swoop in and steal it.

By contrast, if you set it to sell for $1 and you forget to set the "sell to" field, then anyone can buy it for $1.

Be safe. Use $0.
