Hi Ravi

If you are referring to traffic, which used to be called dwell, it works, as far as I can tell, like this.

If a person other than you spends time on your land, say for 5 minutes and then logs off, you get all of that person's traffic. If he spends 5 minutes on your land and the remainder in a club, say, the the club will receive pretty much all of his traffic. It's a complicated subject which has been discussed on the forums before. If I can find the link to one of the threads, I will post it here for you to read.

Below is an explanation from Haney Linden from a previous post which may help, Ravi:

Linden introduced "traffic" or "dwell" as a way to reward residents who create popular locations. Each night a pool of $L is paid out to landowners in proportion to the number of avatars visiting and the amount of time spent on any of their parcels. The dwell that any one avatar triggers in a day is divided up proportionally to the time spent on any given parcel.
The total dwell generated by an avatar is the same whether they spend 5 minutes or 24 hours in SL on a particular day.

ยท An avatar must spend at least 5 minutes on a parcel for any dwell to register. Landowners who own several parcels next to each other may benefit from joining them in case some avatars spend less than 5 minutes on any parcel.

I hope that helps explain it.

The reward for creating a popular location should be that you get paid by the users who wish to frequent your establishment :)

Yeah it's too late for that Eggy. Once Americans settle for a subsidized solution, it becomes a permanent entitlement. Ratings bonuses, dwell and dev incentives would've been okay if they'd been planned as temporary kickstart measures. But they were simply put in place as perpetual programs never to be questioned again.

OK guys, thanks to everyone who responded but......I knew that :)

Maybe I should have phrased it like this: I am trying to buy land for my group, but I get a message that I can't do it because I don't have enough land maintenance credits. Why would the amount of traffic I have influence my ability to buy land for my group? THAT was the question. Would you try again please?

what does being American have to do with anything?

perhaps maintenance credit has something to do with tier. In order to buy land for a group, the group must have enough tier allocated to it. Check to see how much available tier is remaining in your group and make sure it exceeds the m^2 of the land you are trying to purchase.

I hope that helps.

edit to add: I agree that the phrase "maintenance credits" is not common. I can't imagine why LL would choose to use that phrase to describe an error or problem.

Land maintenance credits = tier

I think this is the correct answer, you have to go to your Account History page and to the section where you check off how much land you are willing to pay for in US$ every month.

* * * * * * * * * * * *
Cost Sq. Meters Amount of Land
Above Entire Region is US97.50 for each 1/2 Region (no discount)
US$195.00/month 65,536 Entire Region
US$125.00/month 32,768 1/2 Region
US$75.00/month 16,384 1/4 Region
US$40.00/month 8,192 1/8 Region
US$25.00/month 4,096 1/16 Region
US$15.00/month 2,048 1/32 Region
US$8.00/month 1,024 1/64 Region
US$5.00/month 512 1/128 Region
US$0/month 0 0/128 Region with Premium you get included 512

Gosh Pituca, thank you :) If they had just told me I don't have enough tier, I wouldn't have had to ask a stupid question! Don't ya love it when they muddy the waters??
