There's a lot of concern right now among business owners, land owners, content creators, and regular players about the status of the Second Life economy.
There's favored talk of abandoning the Linden in favor of a new player-generated and controlled currency, a micropayment system, and more. There's also a lot of people that don't like each idea.
I would like to propose that all interested parties join together for a SL Economic Forum in 5 days time. The meeting would be this coming Saturday, May 13th. The time will have to be worked out. Perhaps we can make it a 24 hour forum, to give a chance for everyone around the world who is a member of Second Life a chance to come and participate.
The topics that would be discussed include:
1) Status of the overall economy, including land, content creation, L$, etc.
2) Status of the Linden, especially concerning its continuing devalution.
3) Community reaction to Linden Lab's economic policies.
4) Discussion about the feasibility and requirements to implement an alternate currency.
5) Discussion about the feasibility and requirements to implement micropayments in real $USD.
6) Other topics of interest related to the economy.
The location of the Forum needs to be in a publicly accessible place that has room for everyone who wants to attend. There also needs to be a mechanism for moderating speakers in the Forum to keep one party from hijacking and ruining the event. Suggestions for this kind of place can be worked out in this thread.
The goals of the Forum would be to establish a group of interested parties who will be able to maintain a coherent structure and move forward with establishing an ongoing presence in Second Life whose purpose is to leverage collective bargaining power when dealing with Linden Labs in regards to economic policy.
Since I am a relatively new player, I'm not sure if I would personally be the best moderator for an event like this, although I will offer myself as a neutral 3rd party. In the interest of self-disclosure, I have not yet bought my First Land and I have only just purchased my first sum of Linden dollars via the Lindex.
In RL, I have a lot of experience moderating groups and keeping a neutral position in situations like this. Years of training new techies lends experience.
If other people who the community deems more capable for this role are out there, I have no problem stepping aside and assisting in whatever way possible.
So the idea's out there, if anyone is interested. Contact me in-game, via email geuis.teses@gmail.com, or via IM (aim) geuisteses if need be.
Thanks.
