Nobody is a fool to do that. Do you also find that GOM only may far as 1 (1K) $5.21 ($5.21) at maxium present Or are you fine with this prices. Because if you can buy 1k for $2000,00 why can i not sell 1k for $500,00 1 (1K) $42.00 ($42.00) 4 (4K) $50.00 ($200.00) 1 (1K) $320.00 ($320.00) 1 (1K) $419.00 ($419.00) 1 (1K) $422.00 ($422.00) 1 (1K) $423.00 ($423.00) 1 (1K) $424.00 ($424.00) 1 (1K) $500.00 ($500.00) 1 (1K) $1000.00 ($1000.00) 1 (1K) $2000.00 ($2000.00)

I've never been sure what people are doing when they do that... I'm imagining perhaps a typo, or even a misunderstanding. But, it's not GOM, it's individual sellers doing that.

From: Jillian Callahan I've never been sure what people are doing when they do that... I'm imagining perhaps a typo, or even a misunderstanding. But, it's not GOM, it's individual sellers doing that. There are three possibilities here. 1) Someone is hoping that some idiot will not realise what the numbers mean and fill the orders anyway. 2) Having place placed several orders for tens of blocks they have just 1 block left over and place it at a stupid price "Just because I can" 3) it is a way of transfering US$ between members anonimously "You owe me $800 for that Island I sold you, I'll put 1 block for sale at $800, you buy it..."

"Why does GOM do this" would be more accurately phrased as "Why are some GOM users so damn stupid".
Its partly stupidity, partly scamming. A bit like domain-squatting or registering easily mistyped domains and things.

See, I never liked GOM to begin with. I use IGE, as it is easier, and more stable than idiots on GOM as we see here. I do find it funy that we have to start laundering money through GOM.

I've always assumed sell orders placed with very large prices were a way for sellers to administratively allocate portions of their total GOM holdings as For Sale, without yet seriously putting it on the block or committing to a sale price. I do the same kind of thing towards the end of an evening playing poker, where I'll isolate a stack of chips from my total pile, mentally labeling them as "this is what I'm willing to bet for the rest of the night.

From: Games Prototype I do find it funy that we have to start laundering money through GOM. No one said you have to. And technically it's not laundering. With all the hype about personal info recently in the forums I'd have thought people would like a way of paying each other in US$ for things like Sims without having to know RL identities. Buying/Selling small blocks of L$ for large US$ is a way of doing this.

the long and the short of it is simply that the money market for $/L$ is TINY in RL standards. As volume goes up, profits will go up and everything will shift to a more standardized way of trade. GOM will enhance its features to include things like private orders and the ability to make multiple types of transactions as soon as they can pay their webheads for right now, we are blessed with having TWO sources for converting our money. That's phenominal ~Lefty
