newbie question regarding land fees

Hello,
I currently have a basic free membership. I am looking into getting a monthly paid account and if I feel that I use the benefits i'll go over to a quarterly paid account.
The reasons for me getting a paid account is in order to buy land. Am I right in believing that I will actually be changed a certain amount of cash each month after I have purchased the land? I find that rather odd. Would a rental be better for me?

Many thanks

Finn the $9.95 premium account includes the first 512m worth of tier, enough to get your first land without additional cost. Any more land than that, you'll get charged extra. Hope that helps.

Hiya :)

You get 512 square meters worth of teir free... meaning you can buy up to 512 square meters of land without any extra costs. If you buy more than 512 square meters of land you will be charged more each month according to what you

Now as far as renting there are some things to consider:
- yes, renting can be cheaper than paying teir fees and premium fees (do some math and figure out your total costs as a premium member plus teir and figure out how much your rent will cost in USD)

- when you rent you don't own the land so you might not have access to the land options. some land lords are great and will help you out with whatever you need (changing land options and other things) but it can be inconvenient if you want to make changes frequently.

- if you rent you are not locked into it for any legnth of time longer than your lease (usually anywhere from a week to a month at a time)... if you don't like your neighbors when your lease is up you just pack up and find a new place. If you buy land you would be responcible for selling it on your own if you ever decide to get rid of it. (There are plenty of people who will buy land quick, but you might not get what you paid for it).

so really it all comes down to finding a good renting deal that fulfills all your land needs. There are some really good rental deals out there, but even though it's a good deal if you can't acheive whatever goal you have it's no good.

Blimey, such a fast response! Thank you so much to both of you. I have a look at the land pricing and ussage fees page again and noticed that it was the "additional" land that was charged, my mistake then.

If I could be so impulsive as to add another question.. I often see skyhouses. If I own a piece of land can I build a skyhouse instead/as well as a regular bricks and mortar type? Assuming I have enough prim points for that piece of land.

Kindest Regards.

Yup. You can build anything so long as it's over that land, at any height, though you might find it easier to start with things on the ground.

A 512m plot of land will give you 117 prims to work with -- not a lot, but if you're creative, you can do amazing things with that amount.
