I recently found out the hard way that anyone can come and buy land that is up for sale without my consent: I and all my possessions have been kicked off AFTER i told the individual i did not want to sell to her and she did not want to meet my price.

i find this an unacceptable practice and that should be changed right away: u can't do this in RL and it should not be allowed in SL. :(

You can only buy the land at the price you yourself set. How did this happen?

I am... missing something?

If you set your price in the sales box... she would have to meet your price to purchase the land... also you can set it to sell to a specific person.

Maybe I missed something in that post :(

If the "for sale" box is checked, anyone can buy it at any moment. So if you don't want to sell, turn that off!

You're absolutely right that it seems unfair, and so much UNLIKE RL, that while you want to have your land on the open market and visible to the general public for sale, you can't seem to pick your buyers that way. You can't give your consent to various offers, you are forced to accept whoever right-clicks your land and buys it.

It's a technical limitation but one that isn't unsurmountable, I suppose. With enough people wanting to have "offers" on public sales queue up, instead of going forward, you could pick.

That would be a wonderful thing, becaue then if you saw that "Mall Owner" was going to buy land in a sim you wanted to keep residential you could just click through his offer and go to "Homemaker".

But the only way out of your predicament is to not click off that little box, and write "IM for Sale". It is SO MUCH HARDER to sell land that way!

I still don't understand why the land was set to a sale at a value that was not the seller's intended price.

You've got a good point. I think that land sellers should be provided with the means of vetting potential buyers, and I think that the land sale tools should be changed to allow as much. Provided that the land owner has a choice whether or not he must approve the land purchase, it shouldn't cause any problems at all.

However, it won't actually accomplish what you want it to accomplish. There is no way to distinguish between the alt of a mall-owner and an actual av with residential intentions. You could require references, but that would be troublesome and besides, how do you know those avs aren't alts also? Would you only sell to avs with a certain number of rates? That's not as much of an indicator any more, since people don't rate alot anyways. By what criteria would you decide who deserves the land?

Why did you set it for sale for a price that's UNDER what you were expecting? If how I read it was correct then you got what was coming.

If your land was set for sale at the price you wanted, she would have to pay that price to buy it... If she paid less than what you wished, it was because you somehow set it for sale at an incorrect price. Nobody can alter the price you put there... I guess I don't understand how this happened to you.

You can't fly or teleport in RL either... that's not really a valid argument. Could you please provide more details about how this happened? If you did set the price at your desired amount, yet she was still able to purchase your land at a lower price, then that is something that should definitely be examined by the Lindens.

You can also set land to sell only to a specific individual, which is handy when selling to someone that isn't online at the same time as you.

The Land Economy in SL is something I still wonder about every day or two ;) A lot of small details to look for. And I have to admit: when I bought my first land, it was not clear to me, too, that I simply have to click and say "buy", without ever meeting the old owner. Actually that is not really so bad an idea if you consider, how lonely SL sometimes is, in how many different timezone we residents live etc. If the two partners in a deal would have to be present at the same time, some deals might never happen ...

So, if you want to sell your land but want to select the buyer, why not simply
- list it for a much higher price that you really expect?
- write something like "FOR SALE, PRICE NEGOTIABLE" into the title?

Would be a easy solution, me thinks. Oh, yes, you probably won't sell it as fast than with a cheaper price listed but ... cant have it both ways ;)
