I just bought my second parcel from the known small change griefer who *still* has his little parcels containing the now utterly useless land scanners scattered throughout the world. I was heading to a friend's build and passed one of the famous particle laden, land scanners that run 20 simultaneous scripts for overcomming intentionally added LSL delays.
Given how transient this player has shown to be - complaining on the forums at times when he wasn't banned that he couldn't afford to pay his membership in various months - I suspect the external communications are now getting sent to a dead e-mail or RPC drop so that if more of these still exist, there is Small Chance that any data is getting anywhere.
So I guess my question is: was this a magnanimous gesture to the community or am I a total moron for having given a extortionate griefer US$6.4 to get out of another sim?

I know 2 others selling 16m plots at $5000 to $8000. But yet people here embrace them for the good they do the community.

From: Malachi Petunia So I guess my question is: was this a magnanimous gesture to the community or am I a total moron for having given a extortionate griefer US$6.4 to get out of another sim? I'm not clear whether you are asking what the CHANCE of finding another one of these devices on the SMALLest of parcels was, or of your being appreciated for paying an extortionists' fee as an act of community service. Either way, I'd have to say: what CHANCE ? SMALL . Oh yes, and thank you.

Why all the pussyfooting around?
Chance Small was proud of his scanners. There are I think two long threads in the scripting forums where he actually posts their code as open source, and sets out to refute the claim that they create lag. If I remember correctly he says that they no longer have purpose and should all be gone, but that he's lost track of where some are, and wouldn't mind being told. Maybe I'm hallucinating, but if not, and if you find it interesting, a bit of forum searching should turn up the actual facts, rather than my doubtful memory.
Of course, I was'nt around at the time. Maybe people had reason for antagonism towards him, but I can't say.
Have I really broken a forum rule by typing his name clearly, rather than playing with it, Jeska ? If so please smack my hand and help me understand the exact implications of the relevant rule so that I can do better in future.
Did there really appear to be a functioning scanner on the plot ? In Chances name? It wasnt just part of Hank's Micro-empire ? They are all set to $1600 now I think.

Never buy from Chance Small or Small Chance or buy any 16M griefer overpriced land. Leave it alone.

From: Lindar Lehane Why all the pussyfooting around? I think that it has less to do with pussyfooting, and more to do with being clever and having fun.

Yes, there was a running scanner on the parcel, yes, it was owned by Chance, as was the parcel. The scanner is now in Tumbolia and I've got a lovely 4x4m plot.
