I'm just curious if any developer has bought land up and transformed it into a cute, cookie cutter subdivision with nice little houses and a pleasant environment in SL yet.
If so, how was it received by the community? In some ways, I'd think that it would do very well, as people would like to identify with the familiar in SL as in RL, but in other ways I think it would fail, as people seek to use SL as an escape from RL constraints.
I'd appreciate any feedback.

There used to be at least one Linden Zoned Sim exactly like this.

I'd appreciate any feedback. Yes Faded Reality is a Mature Community now. Not a typical subdivision as ppl can travel by boat around the sim (free rowboat in your library folder folks) Its a beach community where clothing is optional a tki bar and community areas are set up to include events areas and a tiki bar. ppl rent the lots saving them rl us$ on their tier fees. As for buiding they are allowed to build their own homes on Faded Reality leaving them some room to be creative. Or they can put a prefab on their lot(s) Full details are in the information kiosk on the island. Currently I am developing Reality Faded the sister sim to Faded Reality which I recently aquired to compliment Faded Reality it is set to open this week. Mar Mar

As a new resident of Bhima... I didn't get the cig but I got an IM asking me to sell. In searching for land and choosing Bhima I discovered on my own that land was worth way more than 1L. I didn't fully understand why. But I knew better than to sell it for $1250. As did some of my neighbors who have been around anywhere from 2 days to 4 weeks. Of course my next door neighbor did sell and who knows what will become of that land. Hopefully it won't become a mountain or something.
But my take is that there should just be a short document that explains how the new land works and what it's worth. I had to figure it out and my guide was never online when I was.
I hate the idea of losing my new land after 30 days. Maybe I'm misunderstandting the idea. It's a free market and that's why it's fun. So if someone wants to sell their land for nothing.. it should be allowed. Logging in as 10 other identities just to buy first land is a problem though.
I also think that once I purchase the land the defaults settings should prevent other people from creating on it. I just found that 'auto-return' thing last night. There are two objects on my property that are not mine, but I was scare to return them because I didn't know what they were. Like I didn't want to lose something that I might want.
Is there a way to find the objects so I can at least examine them before returning them? Like it might be a tree or something that I want.

In addition to Boardman, Brown is also a zoned sim.

I dont remember the name, and I cant get in world at the moment, but there is an area like this surrounding an open market place I visited recently. Pleasant down to the letterboxes outside the house. Pure suburbia. There is a Monty Python shop there that was in the classifieds at one stage.

Anshe had a try at this - a completely prebuilt housing community with houses and apartments to rent. It was in Svan.
It was a walled Mediaeval town, full of snow-laden halftimbered houses, with a pub, a great church with pillars stained glass etc, a bit of beach, a market area, street lamps that came on at night, illuminating the snow. All beautifully done by a paid skilled architect.
It failed totally. I think it only ever got two tenants. It was eventually demolished. Surprised me a lot. I expected it to be a great success. I have no explanation, except perhaps that it was very little advertised.

You look at Dreamland continent it is huge success, in complete contrast to Svan. In Dreamland sims only certain zoning rules are enforced but people still build according to own imagination within this ruleset

If I was to put down dwellings onto the land, no matter how great the build, 99 out of 100 would come flying back to my inventory once the land was deeded.
