I noticed that the SL Transactions records can be downloaded in XLS files or XML files
I am not familiar with XML, what applications use that? When I try to open it, my browser is the application that it defaults to and it is very difficult to read.
I have a Mac and don't own MS Excel so I'm curious if there is another alternative. I have been saving the records as HTML pages.

XML is extensible markup language. It is used for database applications and documents because it has content tagging. You don't want xml unless you are going to do some heavy data manipulation or repurposing of content.

Although I don't use it, openOffice will open .xls files I'm 90% sure, and it is available on the mac. Take a look around from http://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html
