Greetings to All; I'm new to the game (Couple of days). My free trial just ended and I'm looking to buy some land. I've gone over the forums, FAQ's and 3rd party sites. But I must be blind since I've not found my answer, so please forgive my stupity.
What I want to do is buy (3) plots and put them together to make one. If I understand how things work. My first plot is from SL (First Land) then I buy (2) additional plots from other players err residents.
Please advise if this is correct and if so, how do I join them.
Thanks Again

Not easy to get two more first land plots adjacent to your own, gotta persuade their (probably) proud new owners.
Standard way to do this is to turn your firstland discount into cash by selling it at market rate ( L$1000 to 3500, depending on how well you chose). Then use this cash as part of the purchase price of a bigger plot on the open market.
Prices are a puzzle at present, as we are entering a period of price turmoil due to the possible imminent replacement of telehubs, proximity to which was up to now a big factor in land value.
If you haven't bought firstland yet, avoid snow and PG, mountaintops and steep slopes, try to get near water and next to Linden or protected land.
Who knows, if everyone goes prematurely hysterical in the next few days you might pick up land next to telehubs for a song, and all the horrid lag may melt away as everyone flees outward to ruin the soon-to-be-accessible remoter countryside.
Exciting times to be a newbie ! Good luck.....

Thanks for responding. Would you please explain PG, Protected Land or where Linden is?

Land is divided into 255m squares, visible faintly on the map, and each called a "sim", and handled by its own server in san francisco.
Each such "sim" is rated either "mature" or "PG". In the former almost anything legal goes, whilst in the latter nudity and sexuality, for example (even inside yr own building) are forbidden. To find the rating of a sim square, hold yr cursor over it on the map (still?).
Click on land to see "about land". It will tell you the plot name and owner. Linden (Government) land will belong to "Governor Linden". Road margins, river beds etc. Some other such land is, perhaps for no apparent reason, called "Protected land". Both are good because along such a boundary you sre safe from any towering horrid neighbor crowding you and blocking your view.
People hate snow, don't know why. Most don't use it properly. Used well it can be outstandingly beautiful.
Steep slopes need more building skill to look good.
I think thats it .....................

Again, thanks for your time. I'm at RL work now. So I'll proceed once I return home. Happy Holidays.

From: Sanstrom Laxness Again, thanks for your time. I'm at RL work now. So I'll proceed once I return home. Happy Holidays. You're welcome, Sanstrom. One warning more: If investing in water frontage, check the bed in front of you is Linden land. Sometimes an ordinary plot lurks entirely beneath the water, and may suddenly and unexpectedly spawn something horrid, right in your outraged but impotent face.

Laughs...yet again, I find myself thanking you. This is so confusing I might try to find someone to locate what I want, advise me if it's safe then buy it. Geesh, I think RL is easier. So much to learn.

Sanstrom, I am sending you some notecards with helpful advice. They're a little unformatted, which is why I haven't made them available on the web yet.
Good luck in your search!

First Water

I want a place to have my home. Sure I can buy my 1st land in a grassy field. This is totally uninspiring. I am trying to find something different that is within reason. I am looking for a water plot (all water) but they are either in someones front yard (in front of someone's ocean view) or they are owned. I have found only one area that fits my simple criteria and it is owned by another realestate company and I do not think they will sell.
Is there a good way of finding water lots other than the Map or the Find? And are the Lindens ever going to sell 512 water lots for 1st time buyers? This is probably not going to the correct people but how can I ask the Lindens about this? Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

I suggest you buy first land in a green, mature sim for $L512 and sell it for at least $L2000-$L2500, maybe more depending on how fast you want to sell. Then take that money to buy a parcel on the water. They are more expensive on the water, but there are several places. Plan on spending atleast $5000-$L10,000 maybe more, depending on the view. But remember, if the view is of another sim, or over someone elses property, you can loose the view. People move in and block views all the time. I think that now the telehubs are going away waterfront and streetfrontage is going to be more valuable.
