SUMMARY of FEATURE SUGGESTIONS:
1) SIM level 'visible name tag' switch
2) SIM level 'player tracking' switch
3) ADMIN LEVEL DAMAGE EVENT logging
(Sim Level Switch is like the 'health enabled' switch)
Accountability is important in a MMOG or any online community.
The floating name tags above our heads lets everyone know who we are.
This helps curb griefing and aid the investigation of griefing complaints. As well as Letting your avatar not be an anonymous unit.
However, In a combat situation The name tag is a beacon which screams to your opponent 'SHOOT ME.'
Therefore it should be a sim option (outlands) to turn OFF visible name tags, or greatly reduce there viewable distance.
Or Possibly you don't see someones name unless you have thier Calling Card.
Either way a player that is being griefed can always get the other players name by right clicking and getting profile. (Plus below I describe a ADMIN level event tracking system)
The Calling Cards bring up the next issue.
Calling Cards and TRACKING.
The Tracking Feature currently implemented in the game allows you to find out exactly where a SL resident is currently and track his movemnts with a BEACON on the map and screen. (in the MAP dialog thier is a pull down menu to select a players name to track)
This is a great feature however it destroys all ability to HIDE in a combat situation.
So Sims should have the options to turn TRACKING on and off for players.
The other way this could work is for the players to make sure that thier enemies DO NOT have thier calling card.
If you were once friend with someone and you gave them your calling card but now are an enemy. Then you need to take back your calling card to prevent being tracked. This Taking back yor calling card is already implemented (By deleting thier calling card in your inventory)
As well sometimes players dont SEE who is shooting them over and over. And as well players engaged in combat like to know WHO killed them.
If there was an ADMIN LEVEL DAMAGE Event tracking system there would be few benifits.
1) Players could recieve a message WHO killed them
2) Admins could retrieve the last few killers of a player for greifing investigation etc..
3) Possible feature to implement combat games. Who got the most kills type thing.
Basicly when damage is done the Game Engine should keep a short history of who did the damage and who it was dealt too. Admins and script functions could access this info.
