Ok we need a garbage patrol! I suggest that for each server we have a REP! One of the earlier founders if possible, to clean up thier server of just lost crap, all this stuff lags up servers. I VOTE for me on Perry! The "clean up" ppl would have a special permission that would alow them to clean up object that are on PUBLIC and LINDEN Land (well the linden land that is not used yet).

I for one would be glad to do this... instead of being like.... "DOUG! or JAMES or ANDREW! can you come DEL this pile of crap right off my lot... it's been sitting there for 10 weeks!"

I think we just need a giant garbage truck that roams each Sim, picks up lost trash, and then deposits the ones you own into your Lost + Found inventory.

BRUM BRUM HERE COMES THE GARBAGE TRUCK

Another problem is people log on for the first time play for a week or two and decide its not for them, leave, leave there land, and there half built stuff. Over next to the casino there is a large area with a blackish flooring, with what looks like the start of a plant.... but there has been no progress in about two months on it .

So why not free up the land for newcommers?

heh, the only problem is "what is trash/what isn't" - I could see a buggy garbage truck coming and sucking up my house, and depositing the pieces in my lost & found. And even if it were only looking for objects on public land, Zoli's castle would be gone in an instant.

I do believe, however, that we do need some kind of clean up crew. There was an idea for making objects that "decay" to public ownership on public land. Then we get a group of folks who are trusted not to delete maliciously to scour the sim looking for trash. We could have an "Adopt-a-Sim" and maybe these pleasent virtual enviromentalists could get a tax break or something.

Barring certain circumstances, I think if the owner hasn't logged in a single time in say 3 months time that all of that person's objects should be deleted to his inventory, his land should revert to public, and his money should be put back into the common pool.

While still in beta, I think anyone who hasn't logged in during the time frame decided upon should be emailed and warned that if they don't show up within the next X days, the above will happen. (And if they email back with a Really Good Reason why they can't come in, then they'll be given an extension -- I haven't forgotten about ya, Nada =)

After beta, when folks are actually paying RL $$, I think the same thing can apply with some modifications: any objects on their own land would not get deleted, and their own land would not revert to public, nor would they lose their money -- until such time as they stop paying the monthly RL fee. At that point, treat them like it's still beta.

I agree with the above.

treat the account as accounts. if there is any activity in, say 3 months, then the objects and land remain. if there is none then they are released to resale/deletion.

for the sake of paid acounts (when this goes live), a paid bill acts in much the same way as acount activity (bill paid - flag is sent to mainframe - whatever/however it's accomplished).

while this works for on personal properity/objects. it does't help with objects on public/unowned land. in that regard, I would say that at the very latest, if 6 months go by with no interaction with said objects they are deleted (with a email/IM warning first that deletion deadlines are approaching).

I know that many would say that 6 months is too long (and I would wave my flag right along with them), however that is as *far* back as I would push it. to save on the server load, yet give people time to deal with their trash. Honestly, I think 2 months is plenty of time. But I am sure that there would be many who disagree.

Well I agree one mans trash is another mans treasure , who is to say whats good to someone else , unfortionatly I have seen alot of stuff I would consider " Trash " but im sure someone thinks the same about some of my stuff too.we all are different and have diferent likes/dislikes....

One Problem I see for sure is this (im also Guilty of it)
at the consignment shop stuff is VERY disorganized and people have displays and landmarks and everyother thing under the sun there and same goes outside all along the walkway (me included) this is a LAG MONSTER for some and it also drags thats sim down with the all the extras layin around ....
it would be nice if there was a drop box near town (welcome area ) that everyone could drag and drop the landmarks and then people could simply click on it 1 time and get them all , especially if it was smart enough to not give ya duplicate landmarks that ya already had .......
please dont anyone take offence like I said Im also guilty, so not condeming you anymore than I am myself!!

just a thought and my 2 coppers worth

I think items left on land other than your own being deposted back into your inventory is a good idea. I have seen a lot of noobs say they lost something. I like the idea of a lost & found folder for recovery of such items.

Yeah, someone put an item on my land that I can't get rid of. grrr. I like to let people put things on my land, but I certainly don't want someone putting something and leaving others to clean up after them. (I think the reason I can't get rid of it is because it straddles the property line between me and Nexus. I am guessing that the person is just new, so it's not a big deal, but the trash crew sure could help in this situation.

This would be great for ALL of us. Not only could trash be picked up, but missing object could be reclaimed. In building my house, I accidently messed up the XYZ location, flinging my piece to who knows where. I would like to retrieve that scrap and delete it to get my cash back:D

AH HAH!

The changes to the map view already helped me. Objects you own show up in blue. I followed a blue dot on the map and located a previously lost cabin (&deleted it). I thought it was lost underground but alas it wasnt. Im not sure if small items will show or not but if you didnt know what the blue on the map was...

I think the blue dot on the radar is a big help for lost junk, but the other day I was building my house when, like an idiot, I set my floor's location to about half mile in the air. I went to find it.

Above my land I discovered ten lost items that were too far up for an AV to retrieve. (I only saw them after I set my view distance to above 300.)

I would like some way that items lost so far up can be more easily retrieved or at least deleted. There is a lot of stuff up there... my floor included.
