It would be nice if we had off-line tools that would allow us to create objects while not connected to the game.
Also, it would be nice if we could perma-Link objects to make them a single object once we have completed them.
Lastly, the more complicated request, it would be nice to have a script emulator so we could actually script our objects offline and test them.

it won;t be necessary once the SL goes live though... that is the only reason i stopped working on my compiler... if there is still a serious want for a offline script syntax checker, i will fire it up and see if i can crank it out, if not, it can just gather dust like so many of my other projects heh

Has anything further been said abou offline tools ?
I use 3dsmax, poser, and other 3d apps
But I have fallen in love with the "go into the 3dworld to edit" feel of sl
Creating, altering, attaching, texturing and more are so easy and natural feeling in SL.
I have created some things so quickly in SL that take me ages to build elsewhere and even then they are created for animations rather than actual interactive worlds...
in short SL Rocks but with my Download limit reached I have to reduced my time inworld...
I'd love a personal sim for my own computer...maybe a small one where i can tinker without the rest of the SL experience which i love but also find distracting tooo.
Hey I'll pay for a radically reduced offline SL simulator if such a thing exists....
It would be fantastic .....
Imagine coming in world with your masterpiece already in your inventory....
PS... the drag and drop inventory to object or AV is perfect..to me it feels like i am taking things in and out of very deep pockets ... Super unreal....

There was linking in may (when that was posted). I am not sure what he means, but perhaps he is refering to the idea that has been passed about for melding things together to reduce cost and prim count? Who knows.

maybe he means if you link something together then link that to something else then unlink it wouldn't unlink both..you'd end up with the original linked object and the new one you linked to. i'd love that.
basically i wish unlinking didn't unlink everything inside the linked object too.

Is there an Offline versions of SL...???
A little "practice" world .
I'd love to build and texture offline and only load up what works !
Surely that would be less drain on the servers ?
Or does anyone know of a 3d program that builds like SL ...I have fallen in love with the object creation tools after years of other awkward and hard to learn apps ?
I just tried to create something in 3DS Max that I made in 10 mins in SL... I gave up and even when I had done some little work I soon realised the Max version was "dead" by comparison to SL....
In SL you dont just build objects you create life !

If any one read Snowcrash Hiro the main character can access an "office" of his house in the metaverse when he doesnt have access to a broadband connection. Thats all I want a little office i can build, check scripts and work on my avs appearence with out actually being online. Like if i was on the plane, a train or god forbid a bus and I had my laptop (my primary computer) I would love to fiddle with a gun or a script.

The problem with having an offline area on your hard drive brings up massive security issues.
If I can make "TEH BEST SCRIPTZ EVAR!!!11" on my computer, and put it in a 3000-prim monstrosity, what prevents me from somehow finding a way to put it into SL without paying anything? I realize that the inventory and all that don't cost any money, but I can't just assume that someone won't find a way to game the system and do something naughty with the offline tools.
So, if you can't upload anything from your computer, what's the point of the workshop?

hey i like this idea,i mean the secondlife world is great, but at the same time limited in some ways.
it would just be kinda cool to have an offline practice sim where you have no object limit except for your hard drive space and where you dont have to worry about taxes.
for instance you could put your old builds there after you've taken them down or something.
or you could completely theme your own sim and take some great pics and stuff.
