Sorry if somebody suggested before. But I think we really really need to have the ability to allow other people set homepoint on our land. Especially with island sims becoming popular. Islands need population to strive. How can they strive if people can't set their home there?

I think that the limitation is there to help motivate people to want their own piece of land to have their own home location. Thats just a guess though.

People can set their home to group land, so that may be an option to consider. If the group has land, members can set their home location to that land.

For a while I did not own any land. None of the groups I belonged to had land either. I asked the Lindens how I could set my home to some plot of land other than my last home location (which I no longer owned). I was basically told they did not have a policy on what to do. Maybe this suggestion will at least get the Lindens thinking about what to do.

Well there is a way of doing it but it requires deeding a piece of land to a group, which frankly, is assanine. There are anumebr of threads where I have requested the ability to allow other people to set homepoint and the Linden's reply is ..... <sounds of crickets and tumble weeds rolling across the vsita>

It was possible, it was actualy quite perfect and everything everyone wants...

- In About Land there was an option "Allow Anyone To Set Home Here" check box.

- You could then set your Home to any land that allowed it, group land, your land, or not. If that box was checked, you were in.

It was perfect.

My theory is they took it away to give more incentive to buying land.

I can't think of any way to abuse this, since you can just ban a person and if they set their land to yours for their home they just get auto-ejected all the time, and thats uber annoying, so yeah, GIVE IT BACK. Please.

I like the idea of a home checkbox in 'About Land' to allow anyone to set their home to there.

Side note...is it possible to have more than one home location? If not, it should be. :)

Theres no way to set more than one home now... I can see a usefullness for that... but I'd rather just have Direct Teleporting if you're going to allow 2 Homes (eventualy it'll be give us 3, give us 4, etc.), might as well allow more than just 1 or 2.

My person suggestions on that, have been...

My Picks in profile allows direct teleports.

And/or

My Land window allows you to directly teleport to any parcel you own.

However, doing the second one(teleporting to only your land) only, makes it simular to how we currently have the restrictive My Land setting, where you can only set it to your land. So while thats an option... its just a restricted bandaid on a larger issue.

But anyway, like I said thats a whole nother topic in itself thats been suggested many atimes. :P

The difference might be, say you have 2 Home locations, and you die, could give you a pop-up "Which homepoint would you like to teleport to?" but that could be annoying.

Actually, I think the reason it's no longer there may actually be that someone removed it when redesigning the About Land window, and just never put it back. A couple features have disappeared in that way, and it's only been through a few users' persistence that they've been restored.

For the love of god, bring back this option. I can't deed any land to the group without it auto returning about 400 objects and in order to bring in traffic this feature is essential. Educational establishments have a hard enough time as it is trying to compete with all the camping areas.

wow, what a moldy thread. :)

Deeding land does not cause items to be returned. Turn off any autoreturn you have set before deeding. Deed the land. Set all objects on the parcel to the group (they dont have to be deeded, just set to the group). Then, after you are positive *all* the objects have been set to the group by their respective owners, you can turn autoreturn on. Group members with the proper permission in their role can then set home on the land. :)

This doesn't always work mind you. Once you deed land, the prim limits change and whether or not auto return is disabled won't matter if you're over budget.

Bring this feature back (if it ever existed), there is absolutely no good reason for having removed it. SL is already unintuitive enough as it is for newcomers, do not overcomplicate things by requiring that people join groups in order to set a home point.

Can you explain why the prim limits would change? I have never heard of this phenomenon. deeded or not, you should still have the same number of prims.

Oh, oh, oh, I bet I know why.

You were using prims from land that wasn't deeded.
