Haven't noticed this one suggested before-- how about three little buttons on the modeling interface that automagically sets your camera view to top, front, and side views of the center of the currently selected object?

*I* want to be able to LOCK the bloody camera in one place, so that it doesn't pop back to my avatar when I move.
If I have moved my camera somewhere... That's where I WANT it. When I'm done, I'll hit ESC, and then the auto camera can take over again.
As for front/top/side/etc views... Control-Alt-drag does well for me, though I wouldn't mind a toggle that hides everything but the selected object till you toggle it again or click in the void around it. That would make it easier to see all sides of an object that's embedded in a pile of prims. (Might want to leave avatars on too, so you can see people that may be talking to you.)

I hate move = camera reset. It also makes taking a picture of yourself while moving or a video nearly impossible.

YES! I feel your pain. My camera is constantly snapping back to my AV... especially annoying when building large-scale projects (ie : houses) and making it impossible to film movies of my AV from any angle other then 3rd person.
I would like to see a simple camera lock button!

How about we just get llTakeCamera et. al. implemented. Then we could script whatever type of camera control we want.

Ooh, camera lock sounds good too.
The reason I suggest this is that I find it easiest (by far) to position the camera in a certain way when aligning objects by hand. For example.... a side view is perfect to get an object lined up on the z axis, etc. You *can* make your own side view by orbiting around the object but it'd be faster and easier with either hotkeys or buttons to change the view. Not to mention more accurate than just guessing if you're directly above something or whatever.
I also suggest this because it shouldn't be hard to implement. One of those nifty things that makes people say "Oooh, cool" in the next patch.
Maybe both problems could be solved with the same solution?
