Ok so this is a bit of a gripe, on my part, which i haven't done yet, so i think i am entitled to at least one . We were told at one point that the land we bought would be modifiable, but only to a certain degree, i.e. you could only raise it or lower it within a certain range of the average hieght of all the points... is this still gone happen? if it is, the sooner the better, I am really getting tired of these "FlatTops" popping up everywhere, they have become, in my opnion a bit of an eye sore. I don't know, i am just get tired of seeing new, freshly bulldozed isalnds poping up, and was wondering if anyone else was feeling the same way.

I agree -- maybe if people have to create a height to live on, they could at least make it look a little more natural?

I concur whole heartedly. I actually had to move because somebody created a mountain right next to my home that was so high it appeared as a hole in the map. And now that I've moved my new neighbor has one of those so-called "flat tops" (not to mention his ugly blue house). Anyway, I thinking I'm going to build a 20ft high hedge around my house so that I don't have to see my neighbors stuff. What I suggest us that not only should a land owner only be able to raise or lower their land to a particular extent, but the maximum steepness should be limited (no cliffs), and it shouldn't be possible to make perfectly flat land, or edges, there should be a built in 10% variation level (or it should at least cost a lot of money to do these things). But if this doesn't happen, maybe some one should give a class in good landscaping, architecture, and interior decoration. I'd do it, but scripting is my game, so I think I'll leave the aesthetics to somebody else. Another neighbor gripe: sound, scripters please use the newer llPlaySound, not the deprecated llSound, and use low volumes of like 1 or 2. I don't need to hear your door open halfway across the server.

I think these posts are really great. We need to start acting as a community together to support each other in whats being built around it. Its more then..... this property is mine I can do what I want with it. We really *do* need to consider whats built allready next to where we are considering and whose living next door. Its very comparable to our iRL neighbors. Good communications help and the rating system was put in place for things like this also, lets use them. Perhaps a seperate building rating would also help? Since a person can claim multiple plots of land maybe we could have a per location rating somehow.

I don't need to hear your door open halfway across the server. Good, good, good suggestion. I'm wondering if there could be some kind of object type that could muffle or dampen sound, perhaps. Walls that block sound would come in handy so that while you're inside your house, you wouldn't hear the disco next door quite so loudly -- and additionally, the music in the disco with soundblocking walls wouldn't be heard at the same volume outside as inside. It would also let us Get Smart fans create the Cone of Silence we've always wanted.

We agreed about the land and 'flat tops'
The design of the system is to limit the degree to which land can be terraformed (as a function of parcel area) to eliminate this efffect.
There is probably a bug allowing these extreme distortions, so we'll be fixing that.
For now, please don't build extreme cliffs / mountains! We'll have to 'erode' them at some point - it would be great if those who have created them could fix...

Philip will this also effect land that people lowered and built a building over? I built a rather huge basement/secret lab. And it could be considered a inverted cliff, just not visible. I hope what ever fix you come up with doesn't destroy my lab since its intended for no one to see it anyway. Heck if I didn't post this noone except for who I've shown it to, would ever know it exists.

they eroded once on us, iand it affected my place since I have essentially earthworks awith a house on top. what will happen is that it will stay as deep, but the walls will round out (unless it is REALLY deep, in which case, it will probably get smoothed out more) You might have to move some walls out, but it ends up looking nicer, so its a good trade-off.
