I think that a version of SL should be made for the Wii.
First reason would be that I love my Wii, and I love SL.
Second reason would be that there are a few people that I know of that think it would open new customization posabilities.
Lastly, I dont always have access to my computer, but I can always access my Wii, like when I go on a trip to another state.
*Ok, now that I have used ajaxlife with the Wii and got 1 minute of talk in before i got the "out of memory" screen, I know that its imposable to run any sl things on the Wii, unless the memory is masively upgraded... my hopes are now crushed... (goes and cries in a corner)

Honestly?
I doubt the Wii has the horsepower.

The screen can seem cluttered enough on a regular monitor. How can you see things on that little thing?

Well, I was thinking that it wouldnt be as high on graphics as the computer one... And would maby use one window at a time... I dont think it would be as good as the normal SL, but a way to keep up a somewhat normal schedule.... Mostly for people who cant go without having access to Sl for very long.

Central Processing Unit (CPU) IBM Broadway 729MHz
in the development machines this was a power pc, for the X86 platform its abit on the low end for the bare min requirements, on the mac side its way below the bare min
Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) ATI Hollywood 243MHz
again when they were hashing out the hardware for the wii this was a radieon, looking at the official specs i would imagine its about on par with a 9550, which is the low end of the low end today, 64 bit memory bus and dirt low core speeds puts this card as a 17$ "its better than intel" choice
Supported Resolution Up to 480p
heh even 1080i is substantially lower than average computer monitors
System Memory 88MB
theres your major problem, when ppl are recommending 1 to 2+ gb of ram 88mb doesnt cut it, ... even my dad's old pentium 150mmx laptop has 128mb in it (makes a great little wordprocessor / internet terminal)
Internal Storage 512MB Flash Memory
flash is slow, which makes this being used for swap space or virtual memory rather unlikley
Memory Expansion 1 x SD Memory
altho this could be usefull
so it in theory could run a full secondlife client, it would be slow, but it could be done, the 2 largest hurdles are the video output and the memory/storage

You forgot to mention the 2 usb ports that could be used fot an external hard drive and a keyboard.
Honestly, it can be done if the graphics and resolution are cut down, and some sound being cut down. It would likely have a few less options, special lighting and such. Streaming audio and video would have to be cut out all together... This isnt something to replace the computer version, but a way to stay connected with friends and such on SL when your on, say, a vacation that lasts over three weeks...
As for the last comment, the Wii connects ether wirelessly, or through a LAN connection, and it has an auto update feature, so SL could use something like that...

2 things:
External Hard Drives are alot slower than internal. USB 2.0 max transfer rate of 480 mbps.
To develop on a console, the project developer needs to apply to the console's company for the Development Kit.... which usually isnt cheap.

Not to mention get all their product certified, and with Nintendo of America's stance on "family friendly" content, I think the chances of SL being certified are next to nill.

No offense, but maybe those people need to get out more, and leave the wii at home

You can do some basic functions using the wii brower: A webclient that you might want to try is: https://ajaxlife.katharineberry.co.uk/client/login.katIt is support on Firefox 2, Safari 3, IE 6&7, Opera 9 (annoying keyboard focus issues) and Wii Browser Information about it is here: http://blog.katharineberry.co.uk/2007/07/02/ajaxlife/

/me reads the first post and chokes on root beer. Seriously with Nintendo's past at abandoning systems, i doubt that the Wii is gona last more then a year or so then they come out with a new system for you to buy. IMO it isn't worth messing with. Now if they chose to let the WII last a few years (more then 5) i would give it a chance. This is why i stay with computers... You don't have to buy a new one every year to stay updated, just buy new parts. And most of those games can be emulated. XD

um ok ... game consoles are acutllay more stable on their generation cycles
USA active development cycles
NES 1986 - 1991 5 years SNES 1991 - 1996 5 years N64 1996 - 2001 5 years NGC 2001 - 2006 5 years WII 2006 -
yea i still stick with computers, but theres still life in the wii, this isnt some half assed neogadget like the virtual boy, which was the only system nintendo abandoned, every other one was allowed to have a full lifecycle

can you run photoshop and the web on a wii? the idea of holding a wireless controller to move around and do things in Sl is appealing though.

Just do a google search for something like "Wii PC" or "Wii PC Mods". I've read a couple articles where someone rigged the Wii controller to work with a blue-tooth enabled PC. Not well... but it worked.

Forget Wii, it's a cheap video game for kids (not that it's bad, I played it, and it's nice), but it's just not on par with PS3 and XBox 360 in terms of performance. Speaking of which, Sony is in development of their own "second life" type of online experience, and, from what I hear, Microsoft is working with LL to develop an XBox 360 version of Second life. So, if using a game system platform is what you're looking for, hang in there for a 360 version in the future. And be prepared to pay $12 MORE bucks a month for XBox Live, as I'm sure that'll be a requirement...
