Greetings everyone. I just got into the beta and I am loving it. I do however have a suggestion that I would like comment on (perhaps it has been discussed before).
Reading through the FAQ they mentioned the ability to string a bunch of servers together to enlarge the world, but what if they allowed individual people to have personal servers as well. Now it wouldn't be connected to the larger world, you would enter someones land and there would be a portal (or something) to that person's personal server on their own computer. The admin of that personal server can basically do and design anything they wish without it effecting the larger Second Life servers. Of course nothing can be brought back and forth accross the portals to keep the economy from being disrupted, but it would allow the people to individualize their places and build their own sort of virtual webpage that can be accessed through the larger world. A person could build a huge dungeon that could be explored, or simply a room with pictures of their families. Seperating out the personal servers would allow people to express themselves freely without worrying about money and about effecting second life as a whole.
I would also suggest that portals could be owned by buisnesses (for a fee to Linden of course) that would allow uses to enter that buisnesses "store front" to browse goods or looks at information. Imagine entering through CNN's portal to watch the lasted news casts in a virtual news room, or a Nike store to look at the latest models (not for the avatar but for real life).
I think something like this would be the obvious next next in the evolution of second life, it would create a virtual internet within the internet.
Comments and critisims are welcome.
