Charge maintenance fee for free user!!

Hi I'm new here. I hope that my suggestion reach to LL and consider them seriously.

Free user made up the majority of the Second Life Population. They consume a lot of resources for the Linden Lab to maintain. However some (maybe more) of this free user are free loading the system and do not contribute anything at all except to leech camping spots. This is honestly dangerous for Second Life and everything that Second Life want to achieve.

If this free user have the urge to make money by camping, then they have no problem paying some maintenance fee to keep their activity alive. Hence still be able to contribute a little to Second Life. Its up to LL to charge this free user. It can be as low as L$10 daily or more. Payment can be made on Linden own website.
Maintenance fee should be absorbed once they created a payment info thus validating the user.

For free user that don't have the money, we can always guide them to the nearest camping spot or money tress. There should be a grace period for them to earn some money though. I believed business owner have no problem with this.

I hope this suggestion is looked into seriously. Please leave comment.

Defeats the purpose of "Free" though.

It is still free once you update your payment info. All the maintainance fee will be absorbed once you update it.

Hence still "FREE".

Before this derails too much you'd need to be very specific on your idea of "free" accounts.

It looks like you're talking about unverified basics, but all basic accounts are (currently) free, whether they have payment info or not.

the free account people spend every L$ they have, thats why they camp, and they spend it somewhere, the paid account people can make money due to the sheer quantity of free accounts with a few lindens to spend. A free account people, as a group probably bring in the most new people by word of mouth alone. if only a small percentage of those free acounts pay for anything it is good for LL. So just accept that free accounts are good for SL.

And if you're pointing them to a camping chair to pay the daily fee, doesn't that just create MORE camping zombies?

It should be like in there, where free accounts can only receive and not give anything

I've heard this kind of thing so many times, and my answer is always the same... just because someone has a free basic account doesn't mean they don't contribute.

In fact many people i know with free basic accounts spend more money on here (bought via lindex) than those with premium accounts, and they would only consider going premium if they wanted to buy mainland. Let's face it other than the ability to buy mainland what is the point of going premium? I guess there's the new extended support but I doubt most people would upgrade just for that.

Just to clarify, that also includes people without payment info on file, i know people who have a rl partner or friend buy L$ for them via their account and then transfer it to them.

I've read this anti free / pro free membership debate on here... and I just dont get it. if you dont like campers, dont use camping chairs...

Anyone who supports charging for a free membership needs to realize... all newbies are potential customers, friends, companions... etc. Would YOU have wanted to be treated so p*sspoorly when you started?

I could go premium on the L$ I make camping. But I don't. Why? No incentive. I don't need land and that is the last juicy morsel for upgrading.

Linden Labs (LL) makes LOADS of the monies think about it.... obviously you pay for the game or you wouldnt write this but let me help educate you a bit

when you put in 1$ you get like 266L$ or something like that (not sure on the current conversions this is just an example)

now all the L$ in SL have been put in by someones creditcard one way or another... soo all this money floating around even for the camping chairs that the freebie accounts love, has already been paid to LL

now lets say you want to take your 266L$ and transfer it back to your card or bank or what ever.... well your not gonna get a 1$... your gonna get like .80$.... thats cause in order to get 1$ you need to put in more L$.. its like 274L$ to make one REAL 1$.... see the profit building?

so all in all... all the spending that is done by the freebies accounts is just spreading the cash to more people to make LL more money...

now on to the freebie acounts (some may think i should have done this first but money was his main concern)

free acounts is what everyone starts on.. we all get on to take a look ifwe dont like it we never sign back on... if we do we go and camp to make some money so we can buy stuffs.... some people dont camp... i used to... not any more... i build and sell... but im still a freebie account... i even have my own shop.... now why would LL charge me money for circulating money they already own.... thats like going to a slot machine and putting in a quarter only to have to pay another quarter just to pull the lever... get what im saying? it doesnt make sense

and if it wasnt for free accounts MORE THAN HALF of the users on sl wouldnt be here... and SL wouldnt be as big as it is now...

i hope that helped you some on the workings of LL and why they wont charge freebie acounts.... plus if they did charge freebie accounts wouldnt that be like false advertisement?
