I think this is not going to be implemented and I don't know of any system that does anything similar. However....

I often see a thread, maybe I participated in it before or maybe not, that I just wish would move on its merry way to the second page.

What I would like is a feature to help me do it. I will call it the Anti-Bump. You can only Anti-Bump any one thread once, ever. And all an Anti-Bump does is roll back the time on the last post by 10 or so minutes. The front page currently has just over 4 hours of posts (according to last post times). So with such a system it would take about 24 different people to push a thread off the front page. It doesn't sensor the information, and if people who like it keep posting then it will keep comming back to the front.

The abuse is obvious, someone with 24+ free accounts can push someone off the front page. I know that. This is just wishful thinking. Heh. You can already bump posts you like, this is just kind of the opposite. And yeah its mean.

:)

Testing to see what effect, if any, thread rating has. And bumping the anti-bump thread in the process. :)

Something is definitely needed to prevent people from bumping old useless threads to the top "just becase we can".

I just wish more people were familiar with using NNTP style news readers. So much easier to control at the client level.

You would think these godawful s-l-o-w forum systems would compensate somwhow with usability improvements. I'd have a big long list of filtered users by now that would have no ability to bump a thread from my point of view.
