granted that the grid is linux based, i'm hopelessly old fashioned, and it's a scary thing to do:
ll should publish regularly scheduled resets for blocks of sims and reipl them every week or so. it would inconvenience us for a few minutes a week; but it would also greatly reduce lag, ghosting, crashes et cetera.

FYI, ghosting is a client sync issue. The server knows what the world "looks" like (it has to--it *is* the world). It's our clients that get confused and think it hasn't been deleted. That's why relogging always clears up ghosting.
As to the other points, I'm not sure if SL server code is as poorly designed as some MMOs (for example, SWG). If the code is solid, there's no benefit really gained by rebooting.
It seems to me that the sims run just as fast if they've just been reset or they've been running for days. I think this is a testament to some very good code design.
I could be wrong, I haven't done exact benchmarks, but i've seen sims go down and come back up and don't notice any significant difference in speed after it's back. =)
