Hey all, I was just brainstorming some and I came up with this idea. I am unsure how SL entirely has their current connection setup.
Backgroud:
Well, we all know if you have OMGZOD of a draw distance, you can see neighboring sims. that means there has to be some sort of connection between them, but yet when you try and cross the boarder, it doesnt transfer the agent over right away.
Idea:
I think this would work better if there is a "blend zone" around the sims, where if you are within the zone you get transfered to the other sim, BUT stay within the current sim as well, the second sim just has a ghosted connection, that just does basic tracking of where you are, and the transfer can be seamless if the boarder distances are proper, I dont know exactly but since it takes around 0.73 second or 1 second per sim transfer on a good day, a 5m boarder for connection swapping, and 30m boarder for low lag tracking of avatar position, and have it fluxuate based on avatar speed and such, so it will attempt to transfer earlier when the avatar is driving rather fast, but it wont terminate the connection with the previous sim until it reaches the boarder, so in reality you are cloned during the driving and such, it puts an invisible you over you, and when the boarder is reached, the invisible one becomes visible, and the visible one becomes invisible until outside of the range, just an idea. The biggest problem is sim performance currently, so it might be nessisary to figure out how to code the transfers low lag.
