Object hollow orientation issue

As we all know the hollow function of an object is oriented to cut (drill?) along the z axis (faces strait up to the sky).

For me 99% of the time I am having to rotate the object 90 degrees to make the hollow area perpendicular to its original face (facing me). This is because I need to make 'windows' for buildings (a nice shortcut when the exact placement of a window is not necessary), plus it saves on using 4 more primatives to form a windowed wall.

I would like to suggest that the default face of the hollow cut to be changed (gasp), to be on the x or y axis. At the least give me a 'toggle' control to set the default from its current face to the other axis.

This would save me (and I believe many many other builders) untold 'hours' ;) over time in having to repeatedly re-align the face of newly created hollowed 'wall' objects to what is needed to build with.

You might say why not just keep an inventory item that is shaped the way I want it and use that? Well, when I am creating 'buildings', I am almost always working from the edit/create objects window, and creating custom shapes. To move to the inventory window, find the object, rez it, and the adjust it's size, is many more steps than working with rotating a newly rez'ed hollowed object!

I want to build fast and efficient. Please let us 'control' the tool, not the other way around.

With the number of infinate adjustable variables that the Lindens have given to the AV appearence controls, I would think this little request would be easy. :D

Am I the only one interested in this? ;) Help me tell the Linden's this is important.

Am I so addicted to SL that I am worrying about the minutiae, and therefore should get my head examined? =) <retorical question, I know the answer to that, hehe>

I dunno, Mickey.. I'm not really sure I see the advantage to it -- the Z axis is probably the least arbitrary of the bunch. Besides, is it really that hard to double-click "0", enter "90" and hit enter? :)

I'm sure just as many people use the tools the way they are now, as would switch, wouldn't you think?

Still, the more options for customization we have, the better. Ideally, we'd be able to completely redesign the entire front end, including to the extent of using OS-native widgets, or running the menus as client-side 3d objects. (heh, nobody else needs to be able to see it, but I just want to be able to pick up my IM window and hold it in my (avatar's) hand. :-)

...but I suspect this is a topic for another thread.
