SL Event funding abuse

I got some questions going through my head and I needed to ask.. How do Lindens truely know someone's giving out the $500 prize money at either Mentor or non-mentor events? I know we mentors get paid up front almost and I also see so many "$250" and "$400" prize events that I wonder...

How many are giving out only $250 to $400 of the 'prize money' and keeping the rest for themselves on top of the $250 non-mentor and $500 mentor..

I have reason to suspect some are doing just that, bending the system and keeping some of the prize money from their events and falsely reporting

Example.. yesterday.. movie quote trivia contest (9am).. 20 questions at $20L each.. that leaves $100 unaccounted for.

Example yesterday: 12:30 costume contest... $300 total in prizes.. no word of the remaining $200.

Example: TODAYS 10pm Casino grand opening even. $325 total prize. I talked to Rheya and it IS linden funded which proves my point that people are blatantly abusing the funding system and keeping some of the $500L that is suppose to go to attendence of the event. They're keeping $175 of that $500, thus making $425 instead of the original $250 that is suppose to be for hosting the event.

Do you see where I am going with this?

To help combat this I would like to suggest the Lindens include something in 1.5 or sooner.. a shown "Linden Supported" portion with the references at the top.

I mean like you have "Cover Charge", "Run By", "Date".. etc at the top of the event listing.

To help combat this.. I would like to see it brough to the devs attention of adding "Linden supported" yes/no included

I know the Lindens say they check but really.. how many actually go through ALL the events, EVERY day and investigate each one..

Not many have that kinda time.

I think by adding that, it will help combat the false reports and padding of pockets behind the scene. It would help newcomers know as well that this event pays money, and not just $250 or whatever but a $500 event cash payout.
Please considering this.

I write this report because I am pissed at seeing people skimming off the honor money for themselves when those of us who host events are only making the $250.

I don't know what the Lindens know - your idea seems reasonable though.

I have done one Mentor event at stage 4, hosted numerous Awakening Avatars Events, and sponsored many other Awakening Avatars Events where we pay others from $500 - $750 to do their event at the location of their choice - in addition to Linden$ support. (Sponsored events have to meets the LL TOS and name our group as the sponsor).

Doing events is work and I'm always asking for donations and paying out of my personal funds to support the event program we provide the community. I have not yet found a way to independently support our event program, and am open to suggestions.

I view the recent LL Event revisions as a helpful step and am hopeful we'll see even more future improvements.

After a event I attended where the contest had no winners or prizes at all..I asked a linden and they said to make a report if i thought they were abusing the system and they will check on its..

This has been going on for some time.

When I hold LL-supported events, I only get awarded what I gave out as prize money, plus the bonus. One time I gave out $450 in prizes and that's what I got from LL.

the one time i held a prized event and only handed out 300L, i clearly stated it in my email and was paid the full 750L anyway. that was back in january 03. after that i just made sure to give out the full 500L.

frankly, i don't care anymore. as long as this is a game, people are gonna game it. the fact that they're making real money on it only makes it sadder and more dangerous for ll when they finally start facing lawsuits over it all.

of course the solution to all this crap is to simply eliminate lindens altogether. but that's a subject for another thread.

The problem with that is which shall we start with, and could we cross-thread this with the SL: The movie thread and get Quentin Tarantino to film "Kill Phil"?

I have hosted many events where I did not hand out any prizes--however, I never banked on the prize money. Several times I was paid for handing out prize money when I hadn't, and I have --ALWAYS-- sent the Lindens back the money I didn't deserve. You could probably ask a few of the Lindens about this because I've had to do it several times.

It does, however, disappoint me--all of this. But I'm happy to see that the Lindens have been paying closer attention to events lately, and I'm sure this will be dealt with accordingly.

then where would the money come from eggy? it's not like they just hand us an allowance every week. geez you're a real tightwad.

besides, then the calendar would be so full of people scheduling things as often as possible just to gain dwell that it would be frustrating to find useful events in the list.

hmmm, maybe they should eliminate dwell at the same time. but gee, we'd only have six events a day. they'd be good ones, planned by people and groups trying to contribute to the community; but there'd be damn few of them.

here's an idea, ll can call a spade a spade and admit that this entire process is still experimental. then they can eliminate event funding and dwell for two weeks and see what happens on several fronts.

Hmm... lets see, I dont attend any events. I do actual hard work for people. And I get a shitload more money than if I was running events. You can only have one event per person per day. That's 30*250=$7500 a month.
Dude, I can get 20-50k for a single, month-long scripting project.
An event functions like an advertisement. The listing alone gives you more money by directing people towards your land.
We have dwell already, we don't need event money. Actually I would appreciate it if LL stopped spamming me every hour.

Personally, I would very much appreciate two additional flags in the preferences dialog:

1. "do not show event notifications". This would mean that LL has to make up some kind of filter on their alert function that differentiates between the hourly event notifications and truely urgent notices

2. "show/don't show friends' logons". I mean, I like to know when my buddies log on, but I don't need to know when EVERY buddy logs on. How about making that a 3-state flag: show EVERYbuddy I have a card for, show nobody, or show only "tagged" cards.

I don't know about in-sim, but on the web site listing, it does show "Linden Support requested" at the bottom of the details on the event listing.
