The avatars in SL are wonderful, the customizations are out-of-this-world.

So then..... How could they even improve more?

I have heard quite a few males complain about their big chests. Maybe a more slim chest option?

Maybe an age selecter section where your av would default to a certain age and you could customize from that setting? (height, wrinkles etc)

Lets dream together, what are your ideas?

interesting i was thinking about this cuz i finally got a hold of snow crash - i had an idea about 'prepackaged' avatars.

To quote 'off the shelf models' - will hopefully work on that soon.

Gid one stel!

custom gestures
12-31-2002 13:14
Thanks for bringing this up, Stell. I wanna be able to create custom gestures. I'm dying to do handsprings -- especially in Ben's Bouncey Bounce :) I'd also like to do cartwheels, to swim, to rollerskate, and to create a series of ballet steps. How kewl would that be?

More hair options for the ladies -- curls and braids and ponytails would be awsome. And long hair that swishes from side to side when you walk.

And then of course some preset non-human av options would be kewl too. Some basic animals maybe. In another 3dvr environment I inhabit, I have swan and peacock avs that are absolutely beautiful, and a panda av that's just adorable.

I'm really enjoying playing with my av -- I've never created an av before and I'm amazed at how quick and easy it was, and how even a novice like myself can do a half decent job of it.

Just another suggestion, How about being able to customize the textures on the cloths, tattos, makeup, hair. Just like with objects, I mean the u/v options and the per m option.

And one other: being able to customize seperatly, the facial hair. Like if I want a white beard, brown mustache, and blue eyebrows, and maybe green eye lashes??

I know the mental image seems horrible, but for those who have seen my av customization, I know youd come to expect nothing less. LOL (insert laughing sword here) hehehe

Steller, the big male chest problem is one we are currently working on. There is already a "pectoral" slider for male avs, but even with this slider cranked down to 0, the male chest still looks... substantial. It has to do with the way we are exporting vertex normals for the morph targets of the base av. model. A small chest is still being shaded in the viewer as if it was big. A fix is coming... er...soon!

Kersten, User uploadable av. animations has always been in our design spec., so eventually you will be able to create your own animations using Poser, or something similar, and upload them just like you can upload textures and sounds. Not sure when that'll be implemented, though.

Charlie O, if you are handy with a paint program you can paint your own avatar textures and apply them to overwrite the slider generated textures. In custom. Av. mode under tab "skin", button "skin color" are 3 boxes currently labeled "Makeup" "Upper Tatoos" and "Lower Tatoos". Clicking on these boxes gives you the option of applying any texure you want to your av., so you could give your av. a multi-colored beard if you so wanted. We used to have available on the website the UV maps of the av. models available to use as guides when creating textures. We'll be adding more useful guide textures to the website soon, but one of the early Early Creators might still have those guides in their inventory.

Keep those thoughts and suggestions for av. customization coming.

av tex. mesh guides

in the free market x+ of the greeting area there are "Texture bundle" objects, including one for avatars that contains plaun mesh maps suitable for this sort of thing.

But, I don't know how to apply it to beards. I created a little harlequin mask that looks fine, except that my white beard sticks out.

Maybe you can map your hair, I don't recall.
