Name Changes

I would like to request that we be allowed to change our last names once we are married in game. Of course you should charge a fee. Ultima online Did this and it made the marriage experience more real.

There are lots of issues with changing a name.

I think it would be easier to add a changeable third name.

There are lots of RP(Role Play) areas where you are given a RP name and it gets really tiering to type...

The SL last name would then be considered a middle name for RP and scripts, ban lists, ext are happy to use just the first two.

Even RL I kept my maiden name for professional purposes...and I'm old! Maneo was not amused a few times when he was refered to as Mr. Tiger. He soon got over it. I don't get upset when people call me Mrs. Suntzu. Having witnessed a few ugly divorces in both universes I think that is about the silliest request I've heard yet. I think wearing a lovely wedding ring speaks volumes. Plus, there is a free titler where you can add your married name over your head.

There are many other things in our lovely community which need attention first over name choices.

yes this is a must needed feature. My fiance wants the same lastname as me but whitfield went heritage as of lastyear so no chance in that now.

Changing Last names is very difficult due to how the Key2Name systems work.
There is also the issue of ban lists and in world object "owner" and "creator" fields.

For example I never asked LL capitalize my first name since it would mess with my in world scripts. LL will correct capitalization so it's not a question of them being able to change a name, it's a matter of all the complications that it causes.

Adding a separate third Role Play name would eliminate the issue and allow anyone to add a third name.

I created a script to add anything you say on channel 6 with pre-appended text.

So "/6 hello" becomes "/me Lion says: hello"
resulting in "grumble Loudon Lion says: hello"

FYI: Using "." would increase the number of chat channel 0 listeners. (bad)
but using "." would make it easier to type.

We should just have UUID numbers linked to our AV's and be able to change our displayed name tag only.

Only if there is no way to use someone elses name. That would open up yet another avenue for griefing.

No because any chat, IM's, objects would and abuse reports would still link to the UUID

Provided they clicked on the avatar to report the abuse. Example - "hey i just saw someone named T.B. running around naked in a PG area. I'm gonna report him" I believe you can do ARs from the GUI as well unless they changed that.

And it would be good if the RP name was in the chat window.

The advantage of adding a third name is that there is no way to have the full set of names the same as someone else's name.

I also like the thought of calling SL's chosen name a middle name.

OT:
While they are at it. they should color each persons/objects name a different color in the chat history to make it easier to keep track of.

The way I would implement it is to take the lower 4 bits of a XOR checksum of the name and use a 16 color table.

There will be some names with the same color, but having the name (not the spoken text) colored would make it easier to keep track of.

What if changing your name did this:

Before:
Group Tag
Draco18s Majectic

After:
Group Tag
John Doe
(Draco18s Majestic)

What if it were an option on your viewer go RP mode or Account name mode?
Or Option to display either or both like the groups tag display options?
