I have posted before about the desire for floating windows, and yet to hear if this is at all a consideration or if its possable, so to further explain the uses I post yet another..
This would not only benifit multiple monitor users, but has benifits for single monitor users if implemented right....
all these are for windowed mode with the exception of a few possabilities.
Multi-monitor uses:
Being able to have scripts/chat/inventory/editer/worldmap and any other window on the second monitor...Would greatly improve playability in 2 areas. 1. as the client wouldn't have to redraw the windows constantly. 2. would take the clutter off of the client.
Single monitor uses:
Have the floating window with the option of "always stay on top"
Then if say your working on a texture or what ever else you might do in the background of SL. you can still see chat that comes your way, and while in that other application you can still chat/ edit scripts. Imagine having the lsl.chm file open with your script right there to edit while your trying to figure out calls etc.....
Now to further this, we could add a extra floaty window for system messages, so as to take them out of the chat window, but still be able to see em.

i soooo second this
I only use one monitor, but being able to see chat while im working on a text would be great. Everytime i say 'brb gunna make a shirt' or 'brb checkin a post' the person i was talking to leaves, cause they figure it'll be a long while before i come back .. when its usally only about 5 mins hehe.
Functionality in sl should be broadened in many areas. Anything that allows me to be lazy in sl need to be implemented! lol

They may be aiming to handle some of that with the offline chat client idea. At least the part about continuing to chat while messing about in Photoshop and whatnot. But being able to rip the menus out of the GUI and drag them away as separate windows would be nice, but a LOT of work for little reward. Not enough people would take advantage of it, I would guess.
Great idea, though...

That is so cool! I'd buy a second monitor just to take full advantage of it!

The single most aggrivating thing about many games is all the UI windows that cover gameplay. Why you cant drag them off is beyond me. Please hear this request.

yes! I agree with this request. It gets terrible cluttered when you try to work on something.
