hello i have seen that sl and others virtual worlds can drive someone to stay sitted in front of the computer screen for hours and hours, and sometimes days and days....
this is for sure driving us to have problems with health. a friend of mine is in hospital because of no exercise staying in front of screen with sl.
is it possible to add a reminder in the client that purposes us to make some simple exercices to try to get a better health ?
something like : a big reminder in the home page telling us to be worried about our real body.
every 4 hours of connection, there can be an alert with a link to a web page for a physical exercise. or maybe adding some special "animations" that we can reproduce every 4 hours to better live our sl experience.
i hope to be heard

Sat. (Actually I think it'd be sitting, gramatically speaking, but at least sat is a word.) And if you're really THAT absorbed into it..then...wow. Your friend needs help. Go to him.

but what do you think about this reminder tool ? Personally I think it's going too far. If someone is really that absorbed into SL, then they are lacking attention in RL that they need. Someone should tell them. You should have told your friend, if that bit is true. Seriously. Everquest 2 has this option available, and I laugh at that. They have to come into contact with other people at some point, and those people should tell them. It's not so hard to tell when someone goes that far past alright. Gain weight(Or lose if they aren't eating), lose muscle, sunken eyes, more fidgety in public, etc etc. ETA:: My first response is the response for if this is a trolling thread, as it seems to be at first glance, to me. If it's not, then this response is here.

We all need to get up and walk more, no doubt about it. I suspect any attempt by LL to address this would either be ineffective or annoying. I should get more exercise, but I don't want a program telling me when I should do it! However, maybe a configurable "break reminder" would be good. No doubt most of us would just turn it off, unfortunately. It would be great if it were socially acceptable to say to a group of friends, "OK, break time; let's all take a short RL walk (or whatever) and see you back in 5 minutes!" I suspect that even the physically challenged among us should take periodic breaks and do something besides use a keyboard and stare into a monitor. Anyone have any good suggestions? The best way to avoid the problem is to have a dog. They don't let you sit that long, and they're good for your attitude, too.

i like the idea of the dog im not trolling, im really thinking about this problem. i think that a tool like this exists under linux. not every one have the councious to be aware of health when staying so much in front of the screen because we forget our real body with the time. i understand that it can be annoying an option like this, but it could be disabled or just the need to push one button like 'no thanks" im sure that if i see an option like this, i will play with it only for fun.

It would be no great feat of scripting to make a hud or attachment that would put out such a message.
Or one could have a message delivery service that folks could subscribe to, thus ensuring that they'd get their reminders without needing to use a scripted object. Such a service could send any message people wanted to get, such as to pay their rent, file their taxes, etc.
To bad we don't have nifty peripherals like the WII does as standard, common items on pcs; if we did we could have exercise classes in SL or some other virtual world suitably programmed.
I've used reminder programs and found that I can ignore the reminders just as well as I can ignore my common sense and good judgement. At some point it gets annoying being reminded to do sensible stuff and I shut it off.

Yep get a good sized dog too mine just grabs my hand in his jaws and starts dragging me to play. I'd also like a reminder to eat, put washing out on line, bring washing in, go to toilet, etc
