How would everyone like to be able to keep in touch with people in-world, when you are out-world? I hate logging on when I get home from work in the evening and having to sort through a million IMs!
Wouldn't it be great to be able to recieve IMs from residents on your desktop at work -- AIM style? Or route IMs to your cell phone, that would be awesome.
Let's get some support going here and maybe they can get the ball rolling on this!
Whaddaya say?

There is a libsl powered SL client from a member of the open source community called SLeek, info at http://delta.slinked.net , that will let you chat in SL without having to run the standard SL viewer.

SLeek isn't answering his prayers. What he wants is a stand alone messenger like MSN or yahoo that has a list of names online that you can message to. SLeek is just a skeleton version of an SL instance.

Sleek is Windows-only, and way overkill.
Linden Labs said they were going to use Jabber. Let's hope they stick to that plan.
