i have two buildings next to my house which are never used. granted i've only been playing for couple of weeks but even my neighbors have told me that even they have yet to meet the owners.
so my suggestion/question is... is there some kind of policy for removing unused structures and making the land public again? and if so... how do i go about getting those ugly/boring buildings out of my way?

We also have buildings and vacant land owned by folks we've never seen, and with several of us on a day thats several eyeballs open. Thought I'd read a few days back that inactive players were gonna be purged soon or something.

That I can tell, there are at least three or four of these abandoned buildings in Lusk. For whatever it's worth.

Removing old structures
04-01-2003 08:25
Hi all, and thanks for the suggestions.
We had planned on letting old objects decay to public a while ago, and we are just finalizing the plans to make that happen. Expect to see lots of "dead" buildings (derelict? abandoned?) open to public soon, as well as some land opening up.

peter, how are you going to gauge when a building/land should go public?

thats what i would like to know. i have a resident with land next to me. he owns a large plot of land with nothing but an old voting station and a sign that says vote. i have not seen this resident in almost a month. another resident next to me has plans to expand into this plot, i also had some plans for this area.

This is purest speculation, but I would guess that they have conducted the promised "contacting of testers that have not logged in for a long time" and are going to start deleting accounts. (IhopeIhopeIhope)

Account deletions
04-03-2003 13:22
Wednesday is correct. Users who have not logged in for a long time will have their property and objects released. The plan for the released version is "as long as they are active members, their objects are their own. The moment they no longer wish to maintain their account, the objects/land will revert to public.

From: someone The moment they no longer wish to maintain their account, the objects/land will revert to public. I would hope for at least some minimal grace period (7 days? 15?). Just for the off case where the credit card I was using for automatic payments expires and I forget to update my account before the next payment is due.... Other than that, sounds like a good plan.

AGH I can't build!
04-04-2003 09:51
I was working in my second floor studio last night on my hansom. I was making great progress.
As I went to create the second door...CAN NOT CREATE OBJECT SERVER FULL. And that was that.
I found something else to do (flying around my house and locking the walls and windows, and making the followers of Zolis welcome)...but what's the strategy when this inevitably is more wide spread? What I am motivated to do is either find more land and build another brightly lit room so I can work through the night, or just relocate entirely. It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to start a number of projects unless I do so, and my house will likely remain unfurnished.
What's interesting is if other players have enough money so that they are not inclined to release the land or tear down the structure, but are still fully active--or just active enough--they will undoubtedly leave a trail of forgotten structures and objects that will never rot.
I'm projecting here, but this is the road that I seem to have found, though I will of course clean up any structures and land I abandon. Am I totally in left field? Natoma may be an extreme example but I imagine many sims will encounter these issues when the game goes live.

What do you mean, "object server full??" Does this mean that no more prims can be rezzed in Natoma anymore?
This is some baaad news, as I still have to do more work on the monrail system going into Natoma.
Lindens, care to respond?
Josh

Josh, maybe you need to move this into a thread of it's own. I doubt I'm close to seeing a message like that, but sounds like it could really effect you.
