SUGGESTION: Offline build program

I think that we should have a program that we can download to use offline, which we can use to build.

So, there would be a client we can download and use while offline, to build... stuff and then upload it for "X" amount of L$ per prim. (eg, 5L$ per prim, 10 prim object, 50L$)

This program should have the default texture, or no texture options, and a color changing option, but other than that, EVERYTHING else the same in the building menu. Right down to creating the same basic prims. (well, except the owner/creator/group part. But we should be able to set perms etc.)

This would help the people who cannot get onto SecondLife all the time, would allow people with Dialup to build while offline, and allow people who just dont want to be online because they get too many IM's etc to build.

Why are you listning costs and restrictions? It is a good idea but don't tell Linen Lab to cost you, because they WILL do it. Instead tell them all that without restrictions, let people use the textures they want, comon, don't restrict a new feature O.o

The idea of making things cost to upload is good, it helps our economy and boosts the value of the linden. As much as you might not like to hear it, uploading fees will probably be around for a while.

It's been proposed a few times, there should be a few dozen proposals for it in the voting feature. In fact, I think it's listed as 'under discussion' over there. Though it will be a while for it to come out, I bet.

SL off line client and reader

Think of this. Create an offline building tool. Give us every building feature. Also, create a reader for the rest of the web so others NON-SL users can view the 3d creation, and walk in and out first person shooter style. No AV. That will do two things for you. Boost the quality of creations in SL, and Boost the outside advertising on the web. I am a journalist who is pushing for more 3d applications for digital storytelling, but the current 3d applications are not as easy to use as SL's. It is easy to create in SL. If you sold the client, you would make an additional profit. I would buy it. I would pay to upload as well. I cannot play SL at work, obviously, but if there was an offline client that had a reader, it would user in a new era of 3d builds on the web. It would make SL look better bc more people will be using the tools and be familiar with them from the LL extension of its business in RL. I do not see a downside to this. It would help to revolutionize content on the internet.

I'd love the idea of an offline builder simply because it would let people build seeecret surprise projects without having to hide in a remote sim. ^^

I agree, Mostly

I agree with the idea as a whole, But think that cost to upload the Object would be annoying, its a useful feature that would keep us from having to deal with people attacking us with various weapon scripts and the like, but that shouldn't mean we pay for uploading the same thing we'd make in SL sandboxes, The addition I purpose to this would be the ability to test new textures on objects in the offline mode before spending the $L to upload it, That would be a great help to people that make custom textures for all of their creations, And also provide a way to input a texture and build from it as reference without actually uploading a texture you may never use again. Does this make sense?

That would be awesome!

I think that it is convenient to build offline due to the fact that alot of places where you do go to build are lagged and its just a pain to get stuff done. Also, you dont have to worry about people building stuff that mixes with yours.

Making this a different application would also work, use your own pc's resources to store whatever you build and then upload it to SL (Online) when you are done modelling. then pay the L$10 to texture it and do whatever else you need to do.

I spose it could be the same kind of style as like Avimator or Poser but for building instead.

Love the concept of an offline builder... but charging per-prim to upload? Yeesh! Let's not give LL any ideas here people...

I'll stick with making hair in-world; if you don't mind... set busy and let others put up with me blanking them!
