Like for sounds, it should be possible to restrict rendering of particles from other parcels. Particles sources crowding happens very often and causes objects that use particles to look worse to very bad. For example i get a very particle intensive fountain for my house but it looks bad cause the neighbour uses a lot particles for anything, lights, water, whatever. This can be annoying the same way as hearing sounds from other parcels, and not that techy content developers and builders tend to use way too many particle for the owns things, causing very often problems and client side lag. Would even be good against particle attacks / griefing.

I'm strongly in favor of this as a parcel option!

I wouldn't mind if they were combined into one option, ie: Restrict Sound and Particles to this parcel

This is a great idea, but I'd prefer to keep them separate options.

This is another alternative to the recent suggestion in the First Look forum that we be able to tune the number of particle sources we pay attention to.

Guess this will boil down to a range setting, what about a neighbour placing a particles spam on the land border, 2 meters from your pool or whatnot? Sure it would be cool to have it client side for lesser server side processing, but will LL make it smart enough?

Oh, that's simple, you do the same thing you do if they put a light on your land border... you put up a dark (eg, low alpha or targeted underground) particle emitter just on this side, and since it's closer it gets priority over theirs. Your whirlpool "steam" emitters are closer still, so not effected by either.

hm ok but.. workarounds anyone? :)

the same system like sounds would be best still, guess they could even recycle some code chunks.
