I'm amazed this hasn't come up before... it would be SO useful for edit changes, clothing changes, and an infinity of RP's.
I want a smallish window - same size as the mini-map, say - which gives a second POV to the main game space. By default this could be a "rear view mirror", showing what's immediately behind the av, but - and here's the killer bit - when clicking inside the RVM window the camera POV can be steered around, just like the main game-space POV can be, and then when the av walks about this POV stays fixed relative to the av, not the world.
It's a childish interest, mainly sparked by me meeting someone with a very impressive HUD gadget which animates their Av's face with selected expressions according to what they type - I immediately thought, that's very cool, but what a pain in the ass that most of the time you can't see the effects yourself!
An RVM window would allow that, and also allow much easier manipulation of adjustments of clothing, furniture, etc...

The virtual world "The Lounge", at http://www.themusiclounge.com/faces/pages/index.xhtml, has such a rearview mirror. It is a nice thing to have. Even one that just showed your avatar and nothing else in it would be better than having only one default view from the back.

I made a "mirror HUD" in First Look 57575 that was supposed to do this, unfortunately it only showed me objects to the east no matter which way I turned. I found this occident-avoidance most dis-orientating (even though, of course, it was completely orient-ed)... perhaps I'm just occident-prone.

There's a "bathroom set" for adults at Dark Desires; it has a Vampire Mirror, which reflects only what you would see if the "Bathroom Set" is assembled the right way - with nobody standing at the observation point of the reflection. I'm mildly surprised there isn't a general-purpose floating POV window which can be scripted to be a mirror or a gunsight or... whatever.
