I was just thinking that it'd be nice if we had some extra controls over the in-game snapshot feature. More specifically over the size of the shot it takes.
512 x 512 is great but maybe that's a little too much sometimes. For example, say I'm setting up a store and need quick reference shots to display in-store of how certain things look on a part of the avatar (eg. sunglasses on the face, an item of clothing, etc). I'm not gonna need a full 512 x 512 image to get the point across, 256 x 256 would be totally fine.
I was thinking that perhaps we could have the option of choosing from 128 x 128, 256 x 256 and 512 x 512, then the price could be adjusted accordingly for each.
$10 for 512 x 512
$5 for 256 x 256
$2 for 128 x 128
etc.
Smaller textures equals less strain on the server/client, so it seems only fair that it should equate to a lesser price for the person uploading the texture.
I'd even go as far to say that I'd like to see something similar implemented for regular texture uploads also. 512 x 512 would remain the base $10, bigger would cost more, smaller would cost less.
Then it would behoove people to be more conscious of what they're uploading, and who knows, maybe even drill some thoughts/values into their head about how they should always be thinking about optimising the things they build to improve the experience for everyone involved.
Additional afterthought: It could even be taken one step further. (I'd kinda group this in with the other texture edit features post I posted not long ago). What if the texture viewer/editer also had the ability to crop down textures. Doesn't necessarily have to be all that complex. Say if you have a 512 x 512 texture and you'd like to reduce it down to 256 x 256, a simple frame appears over the tetxure which you can move with your mouse and once you find the nice bit you wanna keep, give it a click and it trims the rest away. AND, then you'd get back the $5 (or maybe a little less like $4) compensation for trimming/optimising the texture.
Whaddya think?
