This is a big one for me--- often Im on a computer that still has dialup (yikes!), so I can't get on to talk to people. I can reply via email if they send me a message while im gone, but have no way to contact anyone if they haven't. I use outlook at home, so all messages are downloaded to my home comp and not available on my ISP website while im away. I would love to have the ability to contact someone from my freinds list when I see they are online, through email, and try to keep in touch with the real world while im away.

Which is exactly why LL introduced the SLim viewer. It's on the download page below the main viewers.
I don't know how well it works, and some of what I've read suggests it isn't that good, but at least they are working on this one. |

Some thing SLim was the answer, I disagree. I'm not alone, and there's a JIRA open about this. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-419 |

I just downloaded SLim, followed instructions to the letter and still no friends in the friends list. Voice works which was one of the requirements so unless I can find a thread somewhere or a page with better instructions it's going in the trash.

Did you loginto SL using the SLim Viewer after installing SLim? That is how your friends list gets populated.
Also, when you are on SLim, only those friends who are using the SLim viewer will be visible and avialable to IM with. |

Thanks, I did finally get the friends list. Because everyone else needs that viewer as well the few that did show up as being available to talk were old customers who I don't socialize with. So until it gets incorporated into a future viewer that everyone will be using it's a bit redundant.
