Hi everyone,
since I got to know libsecondlife, I always wondered how many possibilities exist, enhancing the SL experience by developing client side tools and applications. I have plenty of unique ideas and I am already busy experimenting with them.
By searching for similar approaches, I found out that there are plenty of individuals who are experimenting by themselves. Now that the viewer code is open source, there are even more possibilities.
However, what I am still missing is a collaboration portal for Second Life development projects. I believe it is legitimate not to open source an own development project. Especially regarding SL projects, I guess most people would love to put their software into vendors and sell them for a handfull of L$ (like I would).
So what we need is a portal site like SourceForge, integrated into the SL platform with the possibility of creating an managing projects including sources and bugtracking but without the need of releasing it under GPL or whatever other open license.
This way we would have a central place to go to see what's going on and be part of it. We could easily find other people interested in taking part in our own projects and thus be finally able to create and really finish great pieces of software!
I would like to know what you Lindens think about that. Since there are collaboration suites available for download for free, it would be realizable for you guys to offer such a service. I know that this means time and effort for you... but on the other hand you would increase the interactivity and provide us with a platform that enables us to work together on making our second universe even more feature rich and maybe integrate it even more into our lifes.
What do you think?
Suggestions welcome.
Tib.
