i still remember how overwhelmed i was on my first day of SL. i seriously spent almost two full hours working on my avatar because of the sheer complexities of the existing controls. that's why i propose two sets of controls. one that is basic with minimal number of bars to easily modify the avatars and another "advance" set of controls with all the existing features.

Not sure if we have these, but, I also want to see a 'premade' and 'random' avatar button. The premade will come from a bunch of different premade avatars, and the random will generate a completely random avatar, including textures on the body.

we do... there is a premade avatar called ruth and a small "randomize" button at the bottom of each apperance screen.

I agree with JinDokGhe. There is an -insane- number of sliders, with people asking for more almost every release.

I think some of the more obscure ones could be left off the 'simple mode', which could cut it down by as much as 25% of the sliders, and for the rest...almost every slider closly matches at least one other slider. For these, simple mode could have sliders that adjusted several things at once. The sliders could probably easly be cut to a quarter their current number.

The range of variance in the avatars would not be as much in simple mode, of course. But even for making my very custom character, I could start off getting him close to what I wanted with a simple mode and then switching to advanced mode to make the final adjustments.

I think this is a great idea.

In fact I think 'simple' mode is an idea that should be spread to more parts of SL than just the apparence sliders. Aside from the scripting language and can think of no specifics, but it would be great for everything to start off insanely simple, with options to make it more complex as you get used to the world.
