i think the ability to link objects at different levels will definitely help all those crazy 3d modellers in SL. i am afraid to unlink objects to fix something minor because then i will have to reselect all those tiny primitives...

First a tip:

Use 'Select Individual' to select the one primitive you want to unlink. Then choose tools -> unlink (or the appropriate shortcut). This will unlink that one primitive. Usually I have to select 'Position', then click the ground, then select the primitive again to edit it. When you are done with it, link it back in. Remember that the last selected becomes the parent. More specifically the parent of the last selected becomes the parent.

And a request/vote of agreement:
I agree a tool for layers of links would be way sweet. My suggestion of an implementation: Add a tab next to 'Textures' on the edit tab that would show a tree view in the same form as the inventory (except anything can act like a 'folder' and have things linked to it...) of the primitives linked. Primitives inside this window could be moved around within it and right clicking on a node would give the option to unlink it and everything below it in the tree.

Hope thats clear as mud. :D
