Add a new feature to land to allow leasing/rental of land to an avatar.

Support "Permissions" on what the renter is allowed to do with the land, including...

1. Ability to Freeze Other People
2. Ability to Delete Other's Prims
3. Ability to Delete Land Owner's Prims
4. Support prim limits just on renter (i.e. they are allowed to use 256 prims for example)
5. Configure where dwell goes, all to renter, all to owner, or split.
6. Support multiple renters (i.e. apartment buildings). Might need to specify what altitudes they are allowed to build or have their rental powers (like from 75m to 90m).
7. Configure monthly payments (maybe billed, auto-debit, or something like that)

...and more...

I like this idea.

Other possible features for parcel owner to toggle on/off...

Ability to let the renter restrict access

Person only gets prims that parcel supports

Ability to modify the land

Ability to change picture for the parcel and/or put it in the listings

Ability to set home, and to allow others to set home or landmark.

Those are all I can think of.

I also think that when someone goes to rent a parcel they should be notified maybe by a window or something of everything they will and will not be able to do with the property they are renting, i.e. what features the owner set renters to be able to do.

I'd say maybe make a Land For Rent option in the Find menu too.

the altitude rental is a brillant suggestion. it allows apt building owners to rent cubicle spaces with return permissions and such. brilliant that is.

just to chime in on why many of us were looking towards that feature.

One of the big incentives to visit SL are the large cohesive themed areas that users have created. The random neat build here and there are cool, but theres something kinda special about areas where larger numbers of people work together to create a cohesive whole bigger and better than any one person could have otherwise accomplished.

As one of the founders of such an area (luskwood) i've often wanted to bring new people into the fold or help out friends who need a place to start up and settle down with our more than ample land.

The problem is there is no 'good' way of going about this currently.

We could invite someone into the land-owning group but then that directly impacts dwell of everyone else.. and gives the person abit more power over the main areas of luskwood than we are comfortable with.

Alternatively we could cut out smaller chunks of group land and just sort of 'let' people use them.. but there isn't a way to restrict their prim usage other than sort of confrontationally deleting excesses which is kinda bleh...

Also if they aren't in the group its not really possible for their allocation to help cover the land they are going to be using.

A system whereby we could designate specific areas for specific people within the game, and have the ability to negotiate their payment in return, and land contribution would *really* be helpful in expanding our theme area out into adjoining sims and create a more cohesive and far-reaching 'neighborhood community'

It also fits nicely in with the idea of self-governance where you can have a person, or group of people who can act as a council or leader to help foster community growth and enforce build and behavior guidelines among new members so that all of SL gets to experience bigger and better projects.
