As I mentioned in another thread....
I think an addition of "check point" locatoins in each sim or select sims, would be a healthy addition to teleporting as the world gets bigger.
Something like Diablo or EQ where you have to go to a certain location in order to use the check point system.
Something like the automated tour we have now, just add teleport abilities in them. Where we can teleport to different areas of the world free. But have to pay to teleport from/to anywhere else.

Seconded. I think this is a great idea.
I don't think there should be too many, definatly not 1 per sim. At the very least having 1 at each welcome area is needed. With the world as it is right now I think the right number is between 2 and 6 waypoints.

I wonder if they were thinking this already. The old welcome center in Ritch is a "mini" compared to Ahern. It 's still there and I believe they still plan to use it. Seems logical these mini welcome areas become port points.

To be honest with you all, I really dont like the idea of checkpoints. The reason for my disagreement is because it would cause many people who open stores and have cool places to flock to areas around checkpoints.

I think the bigger risk is of overloading the sim that contains the checkpoint. If twenty people decide they want to teleport a long distance for free (something that might not be unlikely if the world becomes large enough to make checkpoints valuable), the sim with the checkpoint could lag as badly as Clara during a town meeting. And the Lindens wouldn't want this to happen to a welcome area; didn't they say that they've kept Ahern almost empty so that newbies would have a good initial experience in SL, free of lag?

I just moved to Shipley from the secure havens of Boardman and De Haro and I love it! Love the ambiance and my great neighbors. I just have one issue, trying to get back to the event areas and to see my old friends. I am always getting lost in some pretty wild zones (I am geographicaly disoriented in RL too which does,t help). I would love to be able to teleport free to Clyde or Welsh and I can find my way from there. I set up a LM in Welsh, but it costs me $5 to teleport there. Wouldn't it be possible to set up just one extra home point for free teleporting?

I really like your idea...
One extra free teleport...
Could be called something like "Work" or "Job"
Because I commute to Americana (work) from Shipley (home).

Pituca, if you keep getting lost, just use the world map. The new world map has a feature that tracks your position, selected landmark and person just like the mini map.
