I was thinking, people in SL can contact us if we have IM>Email gateway enabled, and then now in 1.3 we can continue a loose conversation by responding via email and so forth.

What's currently impossible is to initate a conversation with someone in-world from outside.

I was thinking, since the website has the capability to list who's currently online that we have a calling card for, what if it gave us a link to send them some kinda "Hey! Talk to me!" type IM in-world from our agent, so that a conversation could be initated, and then continued via the IM<>Email gateway.

Actually, I was thinking it would be great to tie this in to the part of the SL site where they list your friends online... some kind of little webform to chat with friends in world.

I'm sure that with XML/RPC, people will be making IM web clients to talk to people in-game...
