The chat log function should be expanded to include the ability to read the chat logs from within SL.

We should be able to do wildcard search for text within all the chatlogs or subsets of them.

The chat logs need to include date information which they currently lack.

Chat logs need to persist through program uninstall. The uninstaller might need to be modified for greater flexibility about what to do with log files when uninstalling.

Default choice for whether to log chat and IMs should be yes, since it's much easier to delete unwanted chat logs than it is to magically create logs that were never made.

The chat log viewer should be able to process urls like the regular chat history and IM windows do already.

F1 Help needs to update to include mention of chat logging, with a prominent mention of the first page of the Help info.

I think these are great suggestions, SuezanneC.

It would also be useful, if a log file would be created for every day (i.e. 20070201.log) instead of adding everything to one file. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger and there's no information when one session started or ended.

I used to use ICQ, before AOL bought and ruined it, when it still had "show each character as it's typed", which is a great feature for a text chat system, and one time someone made a remark quoting something I'd said several years before about where to find some clothing item. It was kind of spooky, other people being able to provide exact quotes of what you said to them when you might not even remember the person, much less what you said to them. Be that as it may, having a readily searchable, sharable record of text would be extremely useful for people who are trying to work together on a project.
