One of the things that I've noticed and often thought was sad in SL:..The fact that people pour so much time and devotion ...blood sweat and tears into their SIM/Island and its rarely ever recognised or appreciated by the masses.
I don't have any favorites but i do keep LMs to ones that are quite spectacular in my book.
Sure would be nice if The Lindens could sponsor a SIM per month with an advertisement (or something)((maybe a picture of their favorite SIM on the log in screen?) just to get that artists work a little more exsposed.
I would say maybe having that SIM as a makeshift Welcome Island and then change it monthly might be a nice twist to our content creation feats in Second Life.
Who Knows maybe December be a Holiday Sim..Janruary be a cold wastelands SIM...February be a SIM dedicated to Romance..Sortve a Calendar of SIMs but make it Interactive.
Ofcourse the sim would have to meet certain application requirements and criteria..have to be PG..have to have enough available prims and a small parcel for the Lindens to set up a makeshift Welcome center etc....just wondering if it could be done.
Any other ideas?

They used to highlight some places in "Second Opinion" ( http://secondlife.com/newsletter/) but it seems it's become yet another thing they can't be bothered with.

well I'm not saying anything bad about what the Lindens have allowed to be shown to the world to represent "what Second Life is"..But i can say for certain I have seen much better content creation in Second Life than what has been their usual venue to show what's possible here. Makes me wonder what their PR peoples method is for choosing..say avatars to be shown at the top of this screen(it's been there for years) or how they determine what is shown to the world etc. I've seen soo many awesome shots on Fliker of different things that would be such a better representation of what SL is (than play doh people making faces or an island with linden trees on it.) : hruggs:: ~Lana Tomba

Featured Sim of the Month sound like a good things. So many good sims out there that even long time residents don't know exists.
Somethings like /another/ feed blog on the login screen, maybe?

Limiting it to PG only Sims would be a disservice to many great places. In the description of the Chosen Sim all you have to do is state it is mature and those that don't wish to vist can do so.

They already do this. If you go to the Linden Concierge Services Sim, they have placards set up featuring sims in SL, you can submit suggestions, and they pick new ones every so often. It's just that nobody knows about it because you would have to go to the Linden Concierge Services Sim to know about it (sort of like going to your local Library; Free, Informative, and quite empty).

I like the New World Notes blog as it covers builds and not just sims. Theres many amazing areas in SL built by people who cant afford or justify an entire sim. Only considering Sims knocks out the majority of the population. Especially when it comes to pure building: many concepts cant generate income, so $1600 + $295/mo is just plain impossible.
Giving these people exposure can also generate enough interest that can encourage them to continue, possibly acquiring a sim if they get popular enough. These smaller builds are gems, IMO, as they are hidden amongst some real crap and arent very visible from maps.
