Idea for dealing with silly land prices.

Recently LL have started to clamp down on extreme cases land griefing, like 16m lots right next someone's house, priced at L$99,999 with big rotating ads.

Some people want minimum parcel size increased but I don't think that's necessary.
Instead, I think that land sales should all be for a set period, e.g. 28 days. After that the owner receives a notice and the land reverts to 'not for sale'. The owner can then return to the parcel and reset it for sale if they wish.

Those of us who do occasional land transactions at realistic prices wouldn't be too bothered by this, but 16m speculators would soon get tired of having to go round all their unsold, overpriced lots every 4 weeks! For genuine land barons who price their portfolio realistically it wouldn't mean too much extra work either. Probably just a matter of visiting a residue of unsold plots to re-price tham a bit lower.

I dont think it would work out. It is too simple to write a bot that takes on the task of putting the 16 sqm spots back on sale. So it wouldnt be a hassle for the 16 sqm extortionists ... Just spend an hour once to code that bot :-(

You're probably right - I hadn't thought of that! --Unless LL can programme in so setting for sale has to be done using the viewer, using mouse and keyboard.
I've seen some camp pads where they ask you to type in a sequence of letters and numbers every few minutes to prove you're not a bot. Not that I make a habit of camping, you understand!

They could add a required CAPTCHA field to the purchase screen.
The protocol could then require something like MD5(<image digest> + <image text> + <image token>;)

What ever happened to LL saying they were implementing CAPTHA for land sales anyway?

1) Mouse and Keyboard CAN BE FAKED.
2) The camping chairs use llDialog() or llInstantMessage() which is great, but any client-re-purposer would be able to find the displayed text and chat it back (aka bot it). Harder to do without editing the client, but still possible.
3) Use a sufficiently advanced CAPTCHA algorithm, many of the ones in use today are easily OCR'd.

Follow the covenants

If there are no covenants, then the other owners have no legitimate complaint.
