Ability to remove or completely make arms and legs dissappear

Ok..this might have been suggested before but could we have the option in the Appearance to remove or make arms and legs dissappear?

I have several friends and I think so to, that would like to make attachments that are replacements for the legs or arms. It would be fun to see a Mermaid colony or the Androids have a better, more robotic look..Or the ability to have a snakes tail or add to a horses body, something so that we could see more variety in our appearance and make the opption to do so almost unlimited.

Just a thought, Remembering you are only limited by your imagination in SL, My favorite saying to say to new people.

I would love it if we could delete any body part.

Oh, this is a good idea, Soren. Another feature I'd love would be the ability to make an av either very small or say - to be practical - 4 meters tall or so for monster AVs.

I would love it if we could just compeltely disable our av and I dont even know why the Lindens bothered to throw in humanoid avs in the first place.
I kinda like the idea of building your own av from scratch.
It would probably strain the servers a lot less and make it less laggy for everyone if we could all disable our avs at events (and im not talking about alt shift 4 either).

Well the disabling our AVs part by part sounds nice, but I'm glad the Lindens gave us human AVs in the first place lol, would suck to no matter what have to build it plus amature builders would most definatly have horrible looking AVs.

Having the ability to turn off visibility of each part would let players turn everything off and go as nothing but a floating name. While I love the idea of being able to turn body parts off individually, I'm not too keen on turning them all off at once. That's a recipe for abuse. You'd get tired of newbies going around as nothing but a floating baseball bat, wouldn't you?

Perhaps only allow a part to be turned off if a prim is attached to it..? That would allow replacement, but not raw invisibility.

Allowing users to make themselves invisble would open the door to all sorts of abuse..

when I was thinking of this feature I wasnt thinking "turn it off". I was thinking more like having limbs suck into themselves with sliders.,, much like the hair sliders work. If you did this you'd still have a stump. If you made a limb invisible you'd be stuck with a gaping blank hole.

To avoid the abuse issue they could just make it so that arms and legs can be hidden or rendered invisible. It would open up some really cool possibilities for customizing.

That might make some funky animation issues though...

I just wish we could drop our selves down to an editable sphere. Maybe completely invisible, dunno...

I understand the potential for abuse but some of the advantages would be pretty cool.

I understand that at one point (before i got heavily into avatars) Prim's on an avatar were still 'active' so you could see rotation numbers etc.... That would be useful again.

But if we could remove the avatar and replace it compeltely there are a lot of things that could be done. I over all like this idea.

One way to get around this is to take all your AV size sliders to like 0 you can get your AV pretty small if you try and then cover them. The only problem is. Primitives / objects can only get so far from the charactor.

This just gave me an idea about making them go further... I'lll update ;)

If you have the ability to detach legs, your body should bounce around the world like the guy on the SNES game PLOK.

If you have the ability to detach arms, you should be able to attack people with both your feet.

Tee hee :D

I wouldn't want them to actually go away. I just want to be able to make them invisible... it would make things like making your av appear to have wings (or whatever else) instead of arms, or make your av appear seated or riding a beastie or like you have something other than legs. Physics would still work just the same.

I'm all for it. I wanted to make an "av" that was just a tiny ball of light, but it turned out I had to make it pretty big to hide my small-as-possible humanoid form.

The "humanoid limitation" is annoying and, in future versions, it should be done away with. The only catch should be that you have to have your name over yourself all the time if you totally make your body invisible. Either that or make some body part unable to be gotten rid of: maybe your head, or something. It could be hidden easily enough inside of another form you made of prims, and it would make it so you couldn't be totally invisible. Also, you'd be able to play second life as a floating head, which would be cool.

Regarding the abuse issue, we ALREADY have people running around invisible. There is a script in the library to do it. SL 1.1's auto-abuse-reporting features should take care of invisible newbies with baseball bats. (Yeah, no one likes the way it's currently implemented, but let's save that particular discussion for that particular thread.)

Another thing... I am thinking about building an armor suit... if I'm covered neck to toe in armor, there's no point in requiring my computer (and the computers of anyone near me) to figure out all the complex mesh deformations for drawing my arms and legs. Or my torso, for that matter.

If people are feeling paranoid about abuse, let's put in a "draw highlights around avatars" option. Highlight avatars the same way we highlight objects being edited. That would even address the issue of people running around with invisibility cubes.

That's what the green name tags are for. Could we for the love of god not have them be alien green. I hate green and SL is ALL GREEN.
Thank you.

IN early, early beta (maybe alpha, dont know) you could apparently fully make your avatar out of prims- read the develpers journals.

It sounded cool ,but they must have had a reason for changing it to the way it is now. Still, what your suggesting would be really cool =)

Note: Im about to hit 1 million meters up..

I've noticed that a LOT of things block names, and the llSetText messages too. I've had trouble reading floating text above objects many, many times. Either it was because the text was displaced so that it was inside another object, or it was inside the object itself at some angles. For instance, looking parallel to a wall that has records stuck to it with their song names half sticking out and half hidden.

I've always thought that the text on players and objects should be rendered in a separate pass. This would mean you could see a player's bobbing name through a wall as they moved around inside an opaque building, but it would make sure that the name is always visible. And besides, you can always throw your camera inside the building to see who it is anyway.

Or better yet, do the text in a separate pass, yes... But hide or show the text based on the viewability :) of the center point. So if the center of the text would be visible, show the text. ALL of the text. And with avatars, don't count occlusion due to attached prims, just walls and other in-world objects.

As for the body-hiding... I still like the ability to replace a limb with a prim, but can understand if that was tried and tossed. It would have it's own problems.

If possible, that would be ideal.
