The Wii couldn't handle it. You *need* a lot of storage space for local cache, and the Wii just doesn't deliver in that department. You might be able to work around the problem with an SD card, but that doesn't get you past the fact you don't have a keyboard or microphone at your disposal, which would make it pointless for chatting. And since it's single-tasking, you're not going to be able to do things like switch out ot edit a texture or create a sculpty, then upload it. The Wiimote isn't exactly presice or ergonomic for fine motor movement, it's not bad for games where the controls and abilities are limited to what you can do with a wiimote without killing yourself or giving yourself carpal tunnel.

Second Life for the Wii would be like staring at an ODOT freeway camera: You see the world moving around you but you can't interact with it.

It would be interesting to see a Wii based virtual world.

Not Second Life, a virtual world made to use the Wii system to it's best advantage.

If their was more demand for free-form, user created content virtual worlds, there probably would be one, if the development cost and return on investment and such looked ok.

Yeah, not enough memory, storage or processing power to do it sensibly. You could hack quite usable clients in several ways, but you'll always severely limit the user experience and/or require massive amounts of new infrastructure.

I would like to see the wii control used, but not the wii system itself.

That's actually quite easy, I'm pretty sure people have done it already. Not sure why you'd want to, unless you've got nowhere to put a mouse, though.
