Can we please have a way to dissable those annoying teardrop shaped foot shadows? It's always getting in my way, it doesn't look good, and it's just one more thing everyone has to render. Please, just a checkbox in the display menu or options or someplace to turn them off. Thanx

You usually have a couple of black spots around your feet for some reason. Isnt there a shadows option in the preferences? At least there used to be one.

To my untrained eye, the shadows are there to mask the fact that avatars don't walk on the ground but some number of centimeters above it. I believe that this is to reduce the more disturbing visual problem of having feet pass through the terrain while walking.
I'm pretty sure that they are not proper shadows but merely fixed sized spots of reduced luminosity and bear rather small client-side rendering cost.
This doesn't contradict the above, merely tries to explain why they are there.

I'd rather look like I'm floating than have those shadows. Or at least give us the ability to turn them off. They're really cheesey.

Shadows???? what are these you speak of?
I happen to ride around on semi-transparent black hover foot pads.

You people must have a foot fetish to worry about these things I cant remember the last time I looked at someone's feet... I'm more concerned with their faces.

If there was an option to get rid of them, tehn taking these pictures would be a lot of an easier process.

These foot shadows helped me track down an invisible griefer on my property the other day. He could hide his avie all he wanted but I could still see his foot shadows.

I agree with this... now if LL would only code in the ability to zoom the minimap in and out... it would make tracking invisible people in a crowd easier. :> Unless there already *is* a zoom minimap function.... :>

David - When I take clothing pictures, I go inside a big white light box I made, use an animation pose, and fly - kind of hovering in the middle of the box. This eliminates having to edit out those foot shadows.

I believe if you put something in the Debug menu to turn off the feet shadows, and its client side for only you, and you can turn them back on at any time, theres no issues for greifing unless you have them off, then you can just turn them back on. And I believe this is what the original poster meant.
The feet shadows have been broken since 1.1 if I recall correctly, they used to be under the feet, now, they're above the feet, why are your feet shadows above your feet? It looks horrible and odd, and often they get in the way of my zooming to edit things.
I would say fix the whole shadows above your feet issue, and give us an option in Debug to turn it off.
Actualy, has anyone checked if there already is a debug option for this?

You realize that if you remove the foot shadow, then those ugly, webbed toes will be seen by everyone.
BTW, ever camera around underneath your feet?
I've never known fungus to grow at such a fast pace.
Remove shadows and give us real toes!

Over one year later... dating from a time when I was not even a fortnight old as a Resident of Second Life... I'm so emotional... I'm WEEPING TEARS OF JOY! I was naive and knew not better, until the evil crept up my feet and prevented me from right-clicking my shoe attachments! The threat of foot shadows has not been entirely conquered yet but we're well on our way!!! WE CAN STEP ON OUR SHADOWS INSTEAD OF THE OTHER WAY AROUND— AND WHAT WILL COME NEXT???
