We can fly, teleport, and unlikle other social sims, you don't have to green or worry about body functions, but by making things easier you limit us. Flying and Teleportation greatly decreases the need for Transportation like cars and jets, or pub transport. And not having a bunch of things to maintain, well you have no negitive side affects, one can't make sleeping powder, or a hotel, restaurant, because none would go because they don't need too. Also if there was some sort of secondary health bar that would alow you to take knock out damage out side of the pk zones, making things a little realler, so instead of dieing you just pass out for a few minutes... heck your screen could go black. Plus if all of the world was PK we would havew reasons for police, if it was possible to have crime, well it would take things to a whole nother field of reality. Second life is a step in the right direction, but eutopia is limiting. Also, there should be some sort of penalty for death, otherwise, well death doesn't matter... Maybe a period of waiting for resurection or something, dead for a day.

You killed feniks last night - you won't be online enough to worry about it.

I think what you're describing is a totally different type of game. Second life is meant to be a positive friendly community. If there was too much PVP fighting it would attract a different type of player and repel those who want to just hang out and be relaxed while theyre in-world.

As for all those maintenance chores like sleeping etc., personally I didn't like The Sims because of it. That makes it more into a strategy game. And, IMO a boring one at that.

But, I do like the idea about taking away our flying ability, or maybe limiting it in some way. It could give us more of a reason to build planes and cars and monorail systems. Most of which are currently being worked on, but without much need because we can just fly, or teleport.

And, please, don't take this as an attack, just my opinion. :)

I agree Ope, I found that annoying in the SIMS as well. You couldn't do as much if you had to eat, sleep, etc. I'm not sure I would like the idea of my screen going black or having to wait a given period of time if I die either. Getting teleported home can be annoying enough.

I really love being able to fly and teleport. Having to walk everywhere would get really old and I live in the middle of a body of water in the Outlands. I am pretty far away from most events so it would either take me forever to travel or I would always have to pay to get anywhere. Public transportation can still have a place even if we can fly everywhere, it would be nice to take a ride from time to time.

I think the thing here is OPTIONS. With flying & teleporting you still have the option to build & fly a plane or ufo, drive a car, ride a carpet or?.

Without flying or teleporting... well then THAT is limiting. Only people who could afford to make or buy a vehicle & rez it would be able to get around.

As a land owner you have the option to make your land with or without flying & damage. Find like mided people and make a neighobrhood matching your desires.

Its like with that train system that is being built, i would much rather take the train from one part of SL to a station near my home, then fly, moreso for that fact that i can :) Or build a boat and sail through all the water channels in SL instead of flying.

I guess anything is possible, just have to find a way of doing it and imagining the scenerio. Plus on the bonus side for me lol, i know the train would would get me to where i want to go, instead of lag flying into the side of a mountain :( owwie :(

Basically, you want a different game. Go away, shoo! :D

Here's an example of why, even though there's no demand for something (no-need system), people still build fun transportation devices.

James Miller and Pat Murphy and some others I forgot (sorry guys!) are making a monorail. A MONORAIL. It's slow, and it has absolutely no need in Second Life. They built it anyways. And ya know what? It's pretty damn fun to ride that thing!! I think this is the perfect example of why SL is so awesome. It doesn't matter what your need is, it's still fun anyways!!

If you think the whole game is about money, shoo!!!! :D

People making constructive suggestions don't need to be shoo'ed away, smilies or no smilies.

Be nice. Or I'll dig up your first post Dave.

ok on a few things... first off, sorry about killing people last night, I didn't think it would have been that big of a deal... but hey, won't do it again, secondly Ope Rand's first post had great points to it, I guess I should have thought about this a little more... and also I guess the not being able to fly thing would limit just as much. I thank you guys for helping me sort some stuff out. :)

hmmm, not being able to fly would also limit our reach to certain things, there are times where i don't know what i would do without it.

as far as penalizing death, that would just suck :p

imagine, you're strolling through the outlands on your way to a friend's house, then for no reason, a griefer decides to nail you with his nuclear missile. then you lose L$1000 or whatever. and you never did get to your friend's house. you may suggest to find the griefer and kill him, but that's not why i play the game. and if a rule changes the way i have to play a game, then the game isn't fun for me anymore, and i leave :(

Aiosa, and any one else interested, you need to read the thread, "Implementing a "Needs" System", found in this topic. It's old, but provides more insight into this discussion.
