Upon comparing SL and There, I'm conflicted as with most games of a single genre. There's major drawback being that you can't make stuff for free. I really enjoy the Skill system in There (ya get points and items for leveling up in social, sports, and design areas, and it's all automated) and would like to see something like that incorperated into SL although SL seems a bit far in production to include this new functionality so late. :/ The vehicles in SL seem a bit buggy still. The There vehicles are very impressive and I'd like to see similar functionality in SL someday.

How can 'leveling up' in certain areas to get goodies be 'functionality'? I'd see it as breaking the game. Nothing but an XP treadmill in different terms. The very thing I came to this 'game' to avoid.
Or am I misunderstanding what 'There' has?

I don't really want skilling here, while it would be nice to be rewarded it makes it more "gamey". We kind of *do* have skilling already, but ours is called Rating. You get Rated for your creations and appearence and behavior by other users. I like that better myself.

"levelling up" is one of my pet peeves in online communities. The smarts, riding ability, and social skills of the player should be based on their ACTUAL smarts, riding ability, and social skills. A social retard who likes to blabber his ass off shouldn't get a +50 social skill level when a very sociable person who'd rather be building gets a +3 social skill level. That's what happens when it's handelled by the machine.

I also dont want to see any sort of "skilling" in SL. I like logging on sometimes and HAVING nothing to do. I usually end up scripting something neato out of boredom

It's something that can be scripted though, after I think about it. Just reward someone for using your user created content. That way not everyone has to worry about participating.
